Horror on Holiday Beach as a teenager is attacked by a shark

A teenager was seriously injured after being attacked by a shark while swimming at a northern one NSW Beach on Sunday.

Emergency services were called to Cabarita Beach, between Tweed Head and Byron BayAround 3.50 pm on Sunday after reports of a shark attack.

The boy suffered injuries to his right upper arm, wrist and right leg.

Surfers and two off-duty paramedics hurried at the help of the boy and brought a tourniquet to limit the bleeding.

He was flown Golden coast University Hospital by the Westpac Rescue helicopter.

The boy remains in a serious but stable state.

Paramedician Ben Mumford praised the ‘brave’ bystanders who came in to help the teenager.

“We believe he was swimming at the time,” he told Nine News.

‘There were a few brave people in the water who helped him out of the water and there were also a few off -turuty paramedics on stage that helped him until we arrived.

It is not yet known what kind of shark the boy attacked, but NSW Shark Smart had released a tiger shark on Cabarita Beach on Thursday at 1.23 pm and on Thursday.
