Jota was part of the Liverpool side of Klopp who won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup during the 2021-22 season.

The Reds also reached the final of the Champions League, where Liverpool was eventually beaten 1-0 by Real Madrid in Paris.

Under Klopp’s successor Arne Slot, Jota Liverpool helped to win the Premier League title last season.

In total, Jota scored 65 goals in 182 performances for the club.

Jota traveled in a car with his 26-year-old brother Andre, who was also a football player, when the vehicle left the road and the tragic news only two weeks after Jota married his long-term girlfriend Rute Cardoso in Porto.

Jota was just married to Rute Cardoso, the 28-year-old mother of his three children and partner since the age of 16.

He had described himself as the happiest man in the world to be her husband, sharing moving images of their wedding day in his last Instagram post on Wednesday afternoon.

The couple came together in 2013, it was reported and has three children – two sons and a daughter born in November.

Jota often shared photos of him and his family on his Instagram account, while his wife posted images of their holiday in Dubai and Lapland.

They also have three pets.

On Wednesday, Jota and Cardoso, 28, posted video images of their wedding, with the caption: “A day that we will never forget.”

Various fans of Liverpool gathered in Anfield on Thursday morning to lay flowers and messages in honor of Jota, while the world of football fell into mourning.
