The wife of a Black real estate developer accused of stalking a white mother in the neighborhood has revealed why she decided to share the shocking doorbell camera video.
Brittany Jenkins, the wife of Damichael Jenkins, posted footage from her porch on the night of November 19 with a so-called “stroller Karen” confronting her husband – and refusing to believe he lived in the wealthy Ohio neighborhood.
The woman, who has since been identified as Michelle Bishop, claimed Damichael followed her and her two young children in his truck.
She tried to take refuge in a nearby house – and was shocked when Damichael pulled his truck into the driveway and got out, telling the concerned mother he lived there.
“I don't believe that,” Bishop said, before setting off with her son in her arms and her daughter following close behind – dropping the stroller from the Jenkins' porch.
She then ran around the neighborhood, crying hysterically for “help.”
In the aftermath, Brittany said she filed a police report and posted the doorbell footage to a Community Facebook group once the homeowners' association “ghosted” her.
“It took a lot for me to do that,” Brittany told Shannon Sharpe and Chad Ochocinco on the Nightcap Podcast.
Michelle Bishop showed up on Jenkins' porch on the night of November 19, claiming the homeowner was following her and her children
Brittany and Damichael Jenkins discussed the incident on a recent episode of Shannon Sharpe and Chad Ochocinco's Taborcap Podcast
But, she said, the incident has resulted in a lack of trust within their community, and she now worries about her two sons walking the family dog in the dark.
She said they now feel “unwanted and unsafe” in their own neighborhood where they have lived and built their home from the ground up for the past three years.
“We have two boys and he heads our family; He protects our family,” Brittany said of her husband. “It's a lot of weight, it's a lot of pain, it's a lot of emotion.”
“Not once has this person reached out to give us a sincere apology,” she added on the podcast Tuesday night — though Bishop has disputed those claims.
“I have made multiple attempts to apologize directly to the Jenkins family, in addition to apologizing in the moment and through public videos,” she told DailyMail.com. “The claim that I have not made a sincere apology is inaccurate.”
Bishop also released two groveling apology videos and spent nearly half an hour on Facebook Live last week explaining her side of the story.
But she was met with backlash, as some commentators accused her of racial profiling and failed to take accountability for the race-related mistake.
“Just apologize and say you were wrong. Stop making excuses,” read one comment.
“You weren't being chased, so why did you say you were being chased? It's not a misunderstanding. This lie could have killed that man. Save the tears! The least you could do is take responsibility for your actions,” another added.
Bishop issued two apologies on her Facebook and shared the death threats she received in the aftermath
After initially confronting Jenkins on his porch, Bishop returned to the house with her husband to retrieve the stroller she left behind.
Then, on Wednesday night — one day after Jenkins' podcast appearance — Bishop posted another video and held back tears as she apologized to the couple.
“First and foremost – Damichael and Brittany Jenkins, from the bottom of my heart and the hearts of my family, I am so sorry for the way I felt about you that night. I understand why you felt that way, I get it. I really do. It was the worst timing and the biggest misunderstanding,” she began.
Bishop went on to say that she was looking for forgiveness and never wanted to make anyone feel left out.
She denied it was a “malicious, racial profiling incident” and said she has received death threats, which resulted in the temporary closure of her business, a fitness brand called the Ladies Edge.
Text messages reviewed by DailyMail.com revealed threats that read: 'You and your children should die slowly' and 'Bye Bye CEO [laughing emoji] Now your husband becomes a single father. '
But Bishop has claimed she became suspicious of Damichael when she saw him driving slowly through the neighborhood. He has since explained that he was just admiring his Christmas decorations that night.
After initially confronting Jenkins on his porch, Bishop returned to the house with her husband to retrieve the stroller she left behind.
Brittany then answered the door and asked the woman why she was afraid of her husband – making sure he told Bishop that he was in fact living at home.
Jenkins said he now views his experience as a test from God, and he and his wife said they want to use the story to educate others on how to stay calm in difficult situations
Bishop's husband then intervened and said she thought she was being “pursued.” Brittany told the couple that Jenkins lived there and did not pursue her.
At that point, Jenkins came out of the house and said he didn't understand how he could have scared her and told her he was just looking at the Christmas lights.
“Well, you just have to understand my point of view – if I'm alone, I have two children,” she said.
When asked why she didn't believe Jenkins was the homeowner, she claimed, “It was the way you were talking, I really got caught watching.”
Following the brief back and forth, the Bishop family finally left the Jenkins home.
But as the video went viral, the Jenkins were asked to share their experience.
On the Nightcap podcast, Damichael talked about how he had to “check my emotions” when Bishop said she didn't believe he was a resident “because I knew where it could have escalated.”
“I'm thinking, 'Well, what if she had a gun? Would she have run or would I have run?'” he told Sharpe and Johnson.
When Bishop then screamed into the house, Damichael said he started to worry.
'At that moment – now I'm scared. I'm scared because I know what we face as black men in America,” he explained.
Brittany has said her family has received backlash from the community for posting the video, and she now worries about her two sons walking the family dog at night
Then, when Bishop and her husband returned to their home that night, Damichael initially decided to stay inside.
“I don't know if she's going to call the police,” he said.
'I walk back and forth. I don't know what's going to happen. When the police show up…something could happen. We knew they would have the side of them. '
Ultimately, though, he said he decided to join his wife on the porch, determined to remain calm while also taking a stand.
“I had to let them know I live here,” Damichael explained. “A black man lives here…I had to show my face.”
He now views his experience as a test from God, and he and his wife said they want to use the story to educate others about how to stay calm in difficult situations.
“I didn't ask her to show up on my porch,” Jenkins said in his podcast appearance. “This is God's move – this is God telling me that people need to hear your story. You have to inspire. You have to tell people what's going on and use this so that hopefully – this won't happen again. '
