Cleveland Guardians Pitcher Luis Ortiz has been placed on ‘non-disciplinary paid leave’ by MLB, because the competition is said to investigate him for violating gambling rules.
Ortiz, who would start a match on the road against the Chicago Cubs On Wigley Field, on leave, until the end of the All-Star break, remains.
In a statement to DailyMail.com, MLB said: “We will not comment until the investigation is completed.”
In a statement (via the athletics) the Guardians said: ‘The Guardians were informed by Major League Baseball that Luis Ortiz was placed on leave according to an agreement with the Players Association due to an ongoing competition study.
“The Guardians are currently not allowed to comment further and will respect the confidential research process of the competition.”
Although the details of the research were initially unclear, ESPN Later reported that Ortiz is being investigated for alleged breaches of gambling.

Guardians Pitcher Luis Ortiz is mysteriously placed in anticipation of an investigation
Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the application is thrown around two throws by Ortiz on 15 and 27 June, so that bets were marked in Ohio, New York and New Jersey. The deployment, referred to as microbettes, enabled gamblers to place money on Ortiz who missed the battle zone or hit a batter at specific moments in those games.
In both cases, the first pitch sliding controllers from Ortiz were ruled as balls.
It is assumed that his paid leave was negotiated by both MLB and the MLB Players Association. That leave can be extended if the investigation remains open.
The investigation into the alleged gambling of Ortiz comes just over a year after MLB has spent a lifelong ban on San Diego Padres Infielder Tucupita Marcano for placing nearly 400 bets on baseball. Four other players also received a year of suspensions for similar rule breaks in the small competitions.

Ortiz was traded out of season this past to the Guardians of the Pittsburgh Pirates
Ortiz, 26, was initially a prospect of the Pittsburgh Pirates – signed for the team in 2018 and made his MLB debut with them in 2022.
At the end of last season he was traded next to pitchers Michael Kennedy and Josh Hartle to Cleveland in exchange for the first Honkman Spencer Horwitz.
During his career, ORTIZ 279 stripped Strikeouts in 327 innings and has an ERA of 4.05.
This season, Ortiz has a record of 4-9 in 16 games played – with 96 strikeouts over 88.2 innings and an era of 4.36.
Cleveland is now calling pitcher Joey Cantillo from Triple-A Columbus to start the game on Thursday against Chicago.
