Australian boss Joe Schmidt admits that Wallabies has no ‘real confidence’ after wrestling in the last-gasp victory on Fiji for Lions Series

For large parts of the game, the Australians were surpassed by their Pacific Island opponents, who showed little to get fear in the camp of Andy Farrell. Even their poster boy -midfielder Joseph Suaalii was held under wrappers.

Australia’s decision -making was poor, giving Fiji a resting problem when they could have kick the ball in red and rejected the stairs at the goal to clearly pull the scoreboard.

Asked if his team has shown enough to challenge the lions, Schmidt said: ‘I am not a really confident kind of person.

‘There is no real confidence, but there is a calm determination. And that quiet determination can hopefully build the series of three games to something.

‘It is a great opportunity for us to bring the game back to the focal point that we like to be in Australia.

‘We didn’t play well enough today so that people expect that we will bowlen and overthrow the lions in Brisbane.

“I’m not sure if the expectation was there today, and so we will have to build that silent determination and centimeter for inches, we can work a way to that.”

All fingers of Schmidt will be crossed that Big Will Skelton returns on time for the series opener in Brisbane because they looked desperate need for his influence.

They are also confronted with new injury care about whore Dave Porecki and No 10 Noah Lolesio.
