Has the hurry to upgrade to Windows 11 started, because it finally becomes the most popular desktop operating system? Remember that you don’t have to leave Windows 10 yet

- Windows 11 has finally overtaken Windows 10 for market share
- 52% of those who use Microsoft’s Desktop control systems are now on Windows 11
- That is a good swing of almost 10% away from Windows 10
Finally, Windows 11 is present on more PCs worldwide than Windows 10At least according to a series of figures from an analysis company.
Statcounter provided new statistics For July that show that Windows 11 has been accelerated to be good for 52% of all Windows versions worldwide, leaving Windows 10 on 44.59% behind.
That is quite a shift compared to the previous month, where Windows 10 just remained in the lead at 48.76% with Windows 11 in 47.98%. Windows 11 was therefore not far from a full percentage point at the back of June, but is now in the lead with 7.4%, a swing of almost 10%.
Could this be the beginning of a mass start of Windows 10 positions that flee for the banks of Windows 11? Well, that cannot be excluded, and it is clear that time is short when it comes to the threatening deadline before the end of the support for Windows 10, which is October 2025 – that is now only three months away.
However, I am not convinced that there will be a rush of migrators, because although I have argued in the past that you should be Making the upgrade to Windows 11 early – Assuming you can do it (because of the specification of your PC) – There is no longer the same sense of urgency in this matter.
Why not? Then let’s continue.
Analysis: Support and Scrapheaps
Something has recently changed with the extensive support program of Windows 10 for consumers, and it is worth summarizing in case you missed it. Microsoft decided to offer an alternative to the $ 30 reimbursement that was needed earlier To get an extra year of security updates for Windows 10 (until October 2026).
So, instead of stumbling that money, you can now choose to have the Windows -Back -Up -App synchronized all your PCs settings with the cloud. If you allow that – by registering with a Microsoft account – you can get the extra year of all important security updates free of charge. This gives you a lot more breathing space to find out what you might want to do, which is great for those who cannot upgrade to Windows 11 because of being Lofter -System Requirements (or those who just refuse).
Of course ‘free’ is usually not completely free, and the costs here, as it were, your settings can be synchronized. As a result, some online commentators have accused Microsoft to get almost a kind of ‘blackmail’ to gain access to your data. However, I have to take into account that the formulation of the range of Microsoft here is important and that you do not synchronize all your personal data with OneDrive or something – everything you have to synchronize are your Windows settings.
And having those settings synchronize should also help in the future if you want to make the transition to Windows 11 (or the next version of Windows) at a later date on a new PC. The hope of Microsoft, it seems, is that this will make this transition easier, and so people are therefore more likely to enter that path.
I don’t think there is an underlying motif from Microsoft to get his claws in your personal data as some suggest, so in my book this all seems fair enough. However, if you are not convinced, that is just as honest – you don’t have to take Microsoft on this option. Instead, you can pay (or 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points, if you have them, what another alternative is), or just continue and switch from Windows 10 will be in October 2025.
Whatever you do, don’t stay on Windows 10 without security updates – it doesn’t matter to worry about Microsoft’s nose that may be in your data, a hacker can really make your life a misery by endangering your PC because of a non -planned vulnerability because your system has no security updates.
If I have taken a broader perspective, I have half divided myself that Microsoft can offer even more than a year extra support to consumers (in the same way as companies).
Especially since this new backup area of Windows arrived at the last minute, I largely suspect that I am part of the fears of the ‘Towering Scrapheap from Windows 10 PCS‘Activists who are (rightly) concerned about the environmental impact of Microsoft’s Windows 11 system requirements. (Those who prevent many potential upgraders from going to the newer operating system because of an older CPU, or the lack of a specific security function, TPM 2.0).
And so I don’t think it’s unimaginable that Microsoft can offer a second year of extensive support for consumers, and I am very firmly convinced that the company should do this. We will see, but for now, with an extra year of support free (effective), it is not necessary to leave Windows 10 for many people. Not unless your trust in Microsoft is particularly low, whether you do not have a Microsoft account and you do not want to register for one (to synchronize your settings).
There are of course other options, apart from Windows – the most important is a switch to Linux. Of course in that case you must be willing to leave the Microsoft ecosystem and tolerate some limitations that have one of the Best Linux -District will come in particular (mainly around compatible software PC -Games).
In the meantime, we can expect further peaks for Windows 11 in the near future, although perhaps not to the same extent that some people would expect, given the extra choices that Microsoft has just introduced.
Maybe you like it too …
