New ‘Moana 2’ Trailer Shows Off Sparkling Legend in the Making

After Disney announced a new adventure for Moana and Maui with a trailer in May, it gave another sneak peek at the animated sequel Moana 2 during its D23 event on Friday.

The new Moana film, originally developed as a TV series, hits theaters November 27. Here’s the official trailer for the musical sequel, which picks up three years after the 2016 film.

In Moana 2, the title heroine embarks on an adventure “after receiving an unexpected call from her ancestors who have found the way,” according to a Disney synopsis. Dwayne Johnson and Auli’i Cravalho return as the voices of Maui and Moana. In addition to Moana 2, a live-action version of the first film is scheduled for release in 2026.

The previous teaser trailer took viewers back to Motunui and beyond, as Moana embarked on a new journey beyond the reef. Familiar faces included the shape-shifting demigod Maui, Hei Hei the chicken and Pua the pig — who Maui described as a “boat snack upgrade.”

The clip featured the menacing Kakamora, along with a breathtaking whale shark and a few words from Moana: “This is a call from the ancestors to sail to new skies and reconnect our people across the ocean.”
