Former Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin wears a black leather skirt and crop top as she heads to a performance by dance DJ Fred Again in Helsinki

Sanna Marin took a break from work last weekend and enjoyed a music festival in Helsinki with friends.

The 38-year-old former prime minister of Finland, who gave up politics last September to join the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, shared snaps from the Flow music festival on Instagram.

The mother of one swapped her formal attire for an all-black leather look, complete with a mini skirt, crop top and trendy black boots.

Sanna, who was the world’s youngest prime minister and led her country into NATO, seemed to take a particular interest in English DJ and producer Fred Again, posting a photo of him performing on her Instagram story.

In another photo, Sanna looked more like a typical thirty-something than a former world leader as she posed with a friend at the festival.

She opted for a glamorous makeup look for the fun occasion, complete with bold red lipstick.

The three-day Finnish music and arts festival welcomed a host of stars, including Vince Staples, Halsey and Raye.

Sanna was the world’s youngest prime minister when she took office in 2019. In April 2023, she lost Finland’s general election to conservative party leader Petteri Orpo.

Last May, she announced that she was divorcing her husband Markus Räikkönen after 19 years of togetherness.

The couple, who have a five-year-old daughter Emma Amalia Marin together, were rarely seen in public together in the months leading up to their split.

Her latest outing comes after a visit to New York in April. The jet-setting mother of one headed to New York just days after her visit to Berlin, where she posted herself visiting a Holocaust memorial and the German Ministry of Health.

Her time in New York, however, seemed to be more of a social outing, with her enjoying lunches and cocktails with friends.

Sanna posted a photo of passersby near Radio City, which she tagged ‘NYC’.

The photo captures the essence of New York tourism, including the famous yellow taxis and towering buildings.

During her trip she also attended a ‘working lunch’ with friends, where she enjoyed a fish salad with leafy greens and fresh bread as a starter.

Later, the former Social Democratic leader and two friends took a selfie while walking through New York City’s sixth largest park: Central Park.

As Prime Minister of Finland, Marin was one of Europe’s youngest leaders and was responsible for her country’s successful bid to become an official member of NATO.

When Marin announced her departure from politics, she told Finnish broadcaster YLE that it was “time to move on”.

She said: ‘I am eager to take on a new role. I also believe that it can benefit all of Finland.

‘I believe I can serve those voters [in Finland] ‘Well, and maybe even better in the new assignment’.

Although many called her an inspiration for millennials who encouraged younger people to be less apathetic towards politics, she was still a controversial figure in Finland.

Finnish voters were concerned about issues such as immigration and a growing budget deficit, which led to Marin’s narrow defeat in April by the right-wing National Coalition and the far-right Finnish Party, leading to the fall of the government.

She has weathered several publicity storms during her time in office, including for going to nightclubs during the pandemic, hosting private parties at her official residence and voluntarily taking a drug test – which came back negative – after a video of a party was leaked to the media.

Marin also faced widespread criticism after she was spotted at a nightclub in the early hours of the morning, shortly after contacting her health minister, who had just tested positive for COVID-19.

In 2022, she was also caught dancing provocatively with Finnish influencer Sabina Sarka, which again led to heavy criticism.
