Awara is one of the brands under Resident Home, which also makes beds from Nectar, Dreamcloud, Cloverlane and other home furniture brands. There are two different Awara mattresses: the Awara Premier Natural Luxury Hybrid, which is the subject of this review, and the Awara Natural Hybrid. The Premier Natural is the upgraded version of the Awara Natural mattress because it features more comfort foam and has a plusher firmness profile — which a lot of sleepers are looking for.

First impressions of the Awara Premier Natural mattress

This is the second iteration of the Awara Premier that we have tested in our office. Originally, there was only a base model, Awara Natural, which we have also tested — but then the brand decided to release a new version of the Awara Natural and the new Awara Premier, so we have had 5 total Awara mattresses come through.

The newest version of both is definitely one of the best-looking Awara beds, in my opinion. The cover is now this very earthly, tan color, and the cover also has this luxurious-looking tufting which I think looks more inviting. How a mattress looks doesn’t matter that much because your bed will always be covered up by sheets and other bedding, but it is something I noticed after testing over 200 mattresses.

My overall impression of the Awara Premier did not change much with this update because my impression was already quite positive. The new Awara Premier is not trying to reinvent itself — previously, the Awara Premier was an organic latex bed with extra foam to provide a softer sleeping surface and make it more accommodating to more sleepers Aside from the aesthetic changes, that’s still what you get.

Is the Awara Premier Natural mattress right for you?

For anyone looking for an organic mattress and on a budget, but the base model Awara Natural is too firm for your liking, then the Awara Premier is exactly the type of mattress you need.

It is essentially just the Awara Natural but with additional latex comfort foam to provide a softer profile, which makes it more accommodating to more sleeper types and body types — and the Awara Premier is much more affordable than its competitors with a similar number of organic certifications for the materials that go into the mattress. With previous versions of Awara, the latex foam did not have the GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard) certification, but the newest versions do.

Awara Premier Natural Hybrid firmness and feel

Awara Premier Natural feel

The feel of the Awara Premier Natural is defined by its top comfort layers, which are two different layers of latex foam.

Latex foam has a very specific type of feel; it provides a springy, spongy and cushioned feel that makes you almost feel buoyant on top of the mattress. The feel is also a lot more responsive than your average bed that uses other types of foam, especially memory foam.

Responsiveness refers to how quickly the foam returns to its original shape when weight and pressure are taken away. A super responsive foam like latex moves with you when you move so if you rotate from your back to your side, as an example, the foam makes it easy because it responds to your movement.

I like to think about the feel of a latex foam mattress like the Awara Premier as being basically the exact opposite of a memory foam mattress that has a slow-to-respond, sink-in and body-conforming quality.

Awara Premier Natural firmness and sleeper types

The additional layer of latex foam in the Awara Premier Natural does not impact the mattress feel, but it does impact the firmness profile quite a bit.

We rate the Awara Premier Natural roughly a medium on our firmness scale, which means it should work fairly well for all sleeping positions, back, stomach, side and especially combination. I would say it is on the firmer side of medium so certain side sleepers, especially lightweight side sleepers, might find that the Awara Premier is not quite plush enough for their needs — but our team thinks the Awara Premier is much more accommodating than the base model Awara Natural.

Awara Premier Natural Hybrid construction

The main support layer of the Awara Premier Natural is an 8-inch-thick layer of pocketed coils with extra thick-gauge coils along the perimeter to enhance the bed’s edge support.

Directly above the coils is the first 2-inch-thick layer of certified organic Dunlop latex foam, and right on top is another 2-inch-thick layer of latex foam. As far as I can tell, these two layers are identical. This additional layer of latex foam is the main construction difference between the Awara Premier and the base model Awara.

And then, there is a quilted cover made with a blend of organic New Zealand wool and rayon.

Most of the materials used in the Awara Premier Natural feature some kind of certification to show that it is organic. The latex foam is GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard) certified and FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified and the wool used in the cover is certified organic New Zealand wool by GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard).

Previous iterations of this mattress did not have the GOLS certification, which many other brands have, so I think this certification is a welcome addition to the Awara Natural. Anyone who is really interested in their next mattress being eco-friendly with ethically sourced materials should feel comfortable with Awara.

Avocado is still the gold standard for organic mattresses, in my opinion, and the entire brand is certified climate-neutral, which I think is very impressive, but Awara has closed the gap when it comes to certifications.

Awara Premier Natural Hybrid performance

Edge support

The edge support of a mattress refers to how well the perimeter of the bed holds up under pressure. If a mattress has poor edge support, if you end up sleeping near the perimeter, it can feel like you are going to roll off the mattress, which is very detrimental to restful sleep.

The pocketed coils along the perimeter of the Awara Premier Natural are made from a slightly thicker gauge of wire than the rest of the mattress. The edge support on this mattress is solid, and it is not something I would worry about. Our team did observe that the edge support on the base model Awara Natural was stronger, which is typical of firmer mattresses.

Motion isolation

Motion isolation is another factor important for couples because a bed with poor motion isolation can wake you up and interrupt your sleep cycles if your partner tosses and turns throughout the night.

Unfortunately for the Awara Premier, because of the nature of the materials it uses, performs on the low end in this category. Latex foam and coils combine to make this mattress really springy and responsive, so motion transfers through the mattress more readily than other beds, especially ones with memory foam layers like Tempur-Pedic and Nectar.

Pocketed coils do a much better job at isolating motion, and traditional innerspring beds like the Awara Premier might be better than you think, but if you are a light sleeper, you might have issues with this mattress.

Temperature regulation

We would describe the Awara Premier Natural as a temperature-neutral mattress. There is nothing in the construction that helps sleepers cool off like on the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe or the Tempur Pedic Pro Breeze — but latex foam is a naturally breathable material, and pocketed coils also provide airflow, so it shouldn’t heat up on you too much.

Although some members of our team slept on the Avocado Luxury Organic, which uses similar types of materials as the Awara Premier Natural, it did heat up on them a bit.

Awara Premier Natural Luxury Hybrid Pricing

Size Measurements (inches)Price
Twin 38×75$1,499
Twin XL 38×80$1,799
Full 54×75$1,899
Queen 60×80$2,099
King 76×80$2,499
Cal king 72×84$2,499

The Awara Premier Natural is more expensive than the base model Awara Natural, but it still manages to be one of the more affordable latex foam hybrid beds online — especially when compared to other softer latex beds.

The retail price may look kind of steep, but from what I have seen watching mattress prices and discounts for six years now — this bed will always be on a heavy discount, and you’ll only be paying $1,329 for a queen-size Awara Premier Natural.

That discounted price is current at the time of writing and mattress pricing is always subject to change, but the Awara Premier and the base model Awara are easily two of the most affordable latex beds with organic certifications.

Awara mattress policies

Free shipping

Like most online mattresses, this will ship right to your door at no extra cost inside of a large box. Unboxing a mattress usually only takes a few minutes, and we recommend unboxing it with a friend to make the process go more smoothly.

It is possible to unbox lighter mattresses solo, which I have done before, but I wouldn’t recommend trying to unbox the Awara mattress by yourself because it is heavier than your average mattress (132 pounds in the queen size).

365-night trial

All Awara mattresses and other beds from Resident Home come with an extra-long trial period of 365 nights in comparison to the usual standard of 100 nights. So you have quite a while to really test it out and see if you like it.

Keep in mind that it can take a month or longer for your body to adjust to a new mattress, no matter how well-suited it is to your sleeping preferences. The trial period begins the day the mattress is delivered, not when you actually start sleeping on it.

Return policy

If you decide after the first 30 nights that the Awara Premier Natural is not the mattress you want, you can return it and get a full refund with no fees. Most brands will ask you to sleep on the bed for at least a month to give your body enough time to adjust to it, because no matter how well-suited a new mattress is to you and your sleep style, it will take some time to adjust.

Warranty

The Awara mattresses are backed by a “Forever” warranty, which is above and beyond the usual online mattress standard of 10 years.

Like pretty much any warranty that lasts longer than 10 years, this warranty is tiered and offers more protection in the first 10 years in comparison to the years after, but it is still above what we normally see in terms of warranty.

How does the Awara Premier Natural compare to similar mattresses?

Awara Premier Natural vs. Winkbed EcoCloud

The Winkbed EcoCloud is one of my personal favorite latex beds because of how soft it is. It is slightly softer than the Awara Premier, landing at a flat medium on our firmness scale which makes it plush enough for a side sleeper like myself. The EcoCloud also features many organic certifications for its materials.

The EcoCloud is a bit more expensive than the Awara Premier after a discount, but for me, the extra softness might be worth the extra cost of the EcoCloud.

Awara Premier Natural vs. Avocado Green

The Avocado Green mattress is probably the most popular organic latex mattress and is the bed that other brands with latex beds compete with the most. One of the big differences between these beds is price. The Avocado Green mattress is more expensive than the Awara Premier — and if you want a comparable firmness profile, you will have to spend even more on Avocado to get it with the optional pillow top.

Avocado does come with more organic certifications and an impressive climate-neutral certification, which eco-conscious shoppers might be interested in.

Final thoughts on the Awara Premier Natural mattress

I think the Awara Premier Natural is an excellent mattress choice for anyone who wants a bed that uses natural and organic materials. The additional layer of latex foam that softens the bed makes it much more accommodating than the base model Awara Natural, so it will appeal to more sleeper types. It manages to have that accommodating profile, responsive latex feel, and organic certifications while being very affordable at the same time. Previous iterations of Awara didn’t have as many certifications, which explained why it was so affordable, but now it has the GOLS certification for its latex foam, so I’m not sure how Resident Home is able to sell this mattress for such an affordable price, but somehow it does.

If you want a latex hybrid mattress it is difficult to beat the value of the Awara Premier.

Other mattresses from Awara

Awara Natural Hybrid: This is the only other mattress available from Awara and is only a bit different from the Awara Premier. Basically, this mattress has less comfort foam — the type of mattress feel remains the same, but because it is thinner and has less foam, the bed is noticeably firmer, between a medium-firm and a true firm on our scale, making it only appropriate for back sleepers and some stomach and combination sleepers. If you are a back sleeper, you will likely prefer the firmness profile of the base model Awara, and you’ll save some money on it, too.
