Running a bath took on a whole new meaning thanks to a bizarre race on the slopes of Switzerland today.
The annual spectacle in Stoos sees daring participants don fancy dress and jump into a bathtub as they race to the finish line – located at the foot of the mountain.
The organizers helpfully state that 'insurance is the responsibility of the competitors', although thankfully the sturdy tubs are sturdy enough to help competitors get to their destination largely intact.
Now in its 11th year, the race sees teams of three or more race down the slope as the fastest to reach the finish line and be crowned the winner.
Although participants are not required to bring their own bathtub, they are expected to dress up.
This year's participants were dressed as pigeons, gnomes, firefighters and even Teletubbies.
The tradition started accidentally after a plumber, while unloading his van, caused a customer's new bathtub to slide out of his van and into the snow.
Captivated by the idea of the bathtub as a makeshift bobsled, the plumber mentioned this to his colleague and the two men came up with the unique race.
