The Czech skier Tereza Nova is fighting in the hospital for her life after being placed in an artificial coma after a horror crash in Germany.
The 26-year-old Nova underwent a brain operation before she was brought into a coma after she had fallen on Saturday during training for the World Cup descent for Women in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria.
The Czech skiing federation said that the Olympian needed surgery to reduce the brain swelling in a hospital in nearby Murnau after she went down on the Kandahar trail on Friday during the last training.
The federation said that “she will stay in the medically induced coma as long as the medical team considers it necessary.”
“We all think of Tereza and wish her a speedy recovery and a lot of strength,” she added.
Nova participated in four races at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing, with a 14th place in the combined event's best result. Since 2019 she has been participating in World Cup competitions.
