Chaos at Sydney Airport as several flights are cancelled and passengers face major delays
Several domestic flights to and from Sydney Airport have been cancelled as passengers complain of long delays.
Flights were disrupted by the severe weather on Friday afternoon and evening, with more than 20 departing flights cancelled due to the storm.
Seventeen flights scheduled to land at Sydney Airport from around the country from 6pm onwards were also cancelled.
A passenger flying from Melbourne to Sydney claimed he was stranded on the tarmac at Melbourne Airport for four hours.
‘Madness at Sydney airport – multiple flights cancelled. A good thousand or so people hanging around,’ wrote another on X.

The passenger shared a photo of dozens of travelers standing outside the airport with their luggage.
Flights operated by Jetstar, Virgin Australia and Qantas were all disrupted.
Earlier on Friday morning, a handful of incoming and outgoing flights were also cancelled, but most disruptions occurred later in the day.
One international flight scheduled to arrive from Los Angeles was also canceled.
