Internet divided after Kamala reveals secret guilty pleasure that helped her through ‘shock and dismay’ of 2016 election results

Her words often come in the form of a salad, but when it comes to stress eating, Kamala Harris prefers a crunchy snack with lots of cheese.

The vice president caused a stir online after discovering the Democratic presidential candidate’s fondness for Nacho Cheese Doritos, a treat she said soothed her soul after what she called the “shock and dismay” of the 2016 election.

In a fundraising email her team sent out Friday night, Harris revealed that she ate an entire bag of relish tortilla chips by herself that night.

‘[Election night] was incredibly bittersweet. When I went up on stage to give my acceptance speech — to represent California in the Senate — I tore up my notes, prepared to read, and I just went up on stage and said, ‘We’re going to fight,'” she said.

“Then I went home and I was sitting on the couch with a family-sized bag of nacho Doritos. And I didn’t share a single chip with anyone. … And I just watched the TV in complete shock and dismay.”

She even admitted that she didn’t share a single chip with her husband, Doug Emhoff.

But more importantly, she told her fans, “Two things are still true eight years later: I still love Doritos and we still haven’t stopped fighting.”

Emhoff in turn claimed in a 2019 tweet that he had “actually asked for some” chips from his wife the night Hillary Clinton lost the presidential election and “she told me to get another bag.”

In a separate 2019 videoDuring a brief conversation with an interviewer, she was asked what her guilty pleasure was. She excitedly replied: Nacho Cheese Doritos.

“I love Doritos. I agree with Kamala,” wrote one X user.

‘Doritos are my go-to snack when I’m short on time. Seeing the photo of Kamala eating them just like me made me feel normal,’ another wrote on the platform.

Another joked that they had no problem with her choice of chips, just the taste, to write: ‘The only thing wrong with the latest Kamala scandal is that she chose nacho cheese over cool ranch.’

‘On election night 2016 I ate a whole bag of those little powdered sugar donuts. Kamala is so relatable,’ another one wrote.

Most of Kamala's fans loved how normal she seemed at the time, while others criticized her for stooping so low as to seem relatable.

Former The View host Elisabeth Hasselbeck, however, found Harris’ reaction to the election results unbecoming of potential US presidents.

“That’s the emotional response of the leader of the free world — to binge-eat a bag of Doritos?” she told Fox’s Sean Hannity on Friday. “That’s the commander in chief, potentially, that’s the emotional response of the leader of the free world to binge-eat a bag of Doritos? Are you kidding?”

She also said she would feel uncomfortable if she saw Putin drowning his sorrows in a bag of Sour Patch Kids or Qasem Soleimani eating Funyuns.

“I doubt that’s the real response of an elite leader,” she continued. “Whether you agree with what they’re leading or not.”

“They’re mad because Kamala is eating a bag of Doritos that the average American can’t afford to buy BECAUSE of Kamala’s economy,” Doug Billings wrote in response to Hesslebeck’s comments.

‘How quickly Republicans forget Ronald Reagan and his Jellybeans,’ Michael Cleere said on X.
