A homeowner shared how he built his own privacy fence after receiving an expensive quote.
By doing the transformation themselves, they saved over $10,000.
Reddit user GoHokiez shared the DIY project in a post.
They explained that after asking professionals, they had been given a quote of $10,000 to $15,000 for a fence in their backyard.
“We couldn’t afford the quotes we received, so I decided to take on the job myself, with some help from Pops,” the pair said.
“It wasn’t that terrible. There are definitely some areas for improvement, but I’m happy with the result.”
The total length of their homemade fence was 410 feet and it only cost them about $4,000.
A video showed how the wooden fence ran the entire length of their enormous garden.
Although placing the barrier did not exactly go smoothly, they explained that it was not that complicated.
They said that digging for stakes near trees was more fun than they expected.
“[I] “We had to try several places until we were lucky enough to dig half a meter deep on both sides within an eight-foot radius without having to cut through any large roots,” the researchers said.
“It was one of the most fun problems to solve.”
They said the job took them a few days of work, but it was worth it.
“It’s hard to estimate. I did it for two months in my spare time and on weekends,” they say.
“But if I have to guess, [it took] four to five full 12-hour workdays for one person.
“Circular saw, impact wrench, drill, level, earth auger, ground auger, cement mixer, gloves, patience and lots of audiobooks/podcasts in the queue.”
They added that while the fence is now bare, they hope the neighbor will finish it.
“I hope my neighbor paints Davy Jones’ face on his side,” they said.
Davy Jones, an actor who starred in Pirates of the Caribbean, had a beard that resembled a tree trunk.
The audience praised them for their dedication and hard work.
“Looking good; time to pickle!” said one commentator.
“Yeaaaahhhhh….not looking forward to it,” the Redditor sighed.
