Celebrities and famous faces in the audience at the Democratic Convention
Thousands of Democrats — congressmen, party members, politicians and celebrities — packed the United Center in Chicago this week to nominate Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz for president and vice president. Here are some of the notable people spotted in the arena.
Thursday
Accepting her party’s nomination, Ms. Harris spoke of her middle-class roots and called for unity with a “new way forward.” Before she spoke, members of her family took turns at the podium, including her sister Maya, niece Meena and stepdaughter Ella. Several celebrities were spotted in the crowd.
Wednesday
The convention’s third night featured speeches from several rising party stars, former President Bill Clinton and a surprise appearance by Oprah Winfrey. After several guests emphasized Mr. Walz’s average personality and background as a football coach, he formally accepted the Democratic nomination for vice president.
Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar helped introduce Mr. Walz before he took the stage, emphasizing his Midwestern roots.

Several Democratic governors, including JB Pritzker of the host state of Illinois, sat with their delegations during a ceremonial roll call. A playlist of songs and a performance by rapper Lil Jon provided the soundtrack to the evening.
Before speeches from former First Lady Michelle Obama and former President Barack Obama closed out the evening, Doug Emhoff, the second gentleman, spoke about how Mrs. Harris took on the role of “Momala” to his children, Cole and Ella.

The first night of the convention featured speeches from Hillary Clinton and a torch-passing address from President Biden. “America, I did my best for you,” he said, reciting a line from the Gene Scheer song “American Anthem.” Several of Biden’s family members were among the crowd, and the audience held up signs reading “Thank you, Joe.”
Nancy Pelosi, a key figure in the fight to remove Biden from the race, held a “We [Heart] “Joe” sign.
