We bought a school bus and gave it a budget-friendly makeover to turn it into our tiny home
A WOMAN showed how she converted a school bus into a tiny home for her and her family.
Carlene Robbins took to social media to show how she transformed her home on a budget, including repurposing a trash can as a sink.
The mother said she bought the bus from the local school for £2,000 and decided to convert it into a camper van for travelling.
In the post she showed the outside of the bus, which was not finished yet because she wanted to put an air conditioning system and tires on it.
Inside the bus was a bunk bed that her husband had made for them and the children. They were both double beds.
There was a sink and a small counter near the door of the bus. To save money, they used a metal trash can instead of a bowl.

It looks like they used reclaimed wood to create boxes around the laundry room as well for extra storage.
Next to the bunk bed was a small sofa with a large table that could be pulled out so that the whole family could eat together.
She had decorated the inside with a beautiful floral theme, including sunflower-shaped tablecloths, flower doorknobs and fake bouquets.
Carlene gave fans an update on the progress saying, “A little update on our school bus that we purchased from the local school system to turn into our camper. It’s been about 2 months since we started building it.
“We have the interior almost done, we still have a floor and several driver and passenger seats next on the list… Hubby built a couple of cubicles above the sink that lift up and out. We also installed a hot water tap on demand, right at the tap itself. It works great, so no water heater needed.
“He built a composting toilet, so all we need now is a gray holding tank.”
“We did all the work. My husband is a jack of all trades, so there is no labor involved, only material costs,” Carlene added.
The message was a hit with members of the Small-scale living She shared it in a Facebook group with over 300 likes.
People were raving about the fantastic work they had done.

Are tiny houses legal in the UK?
TINY houses can be in the UK regardless of whether they are on a trailer or not. The legality of tiny houses depends on where they are and what you are using them for.
If you want to place your tiny house in the backyard of your home and the total size of your tiny house does not exceed 19.8m x 6.7m (65ft x 22ft), then there is good news! You do not need a building permit.
Tiny houses that fit within these dimensions and are built on a trailer base are legally classified as caravans. This means that you can legally park them on your property without needing a building permit.
If you plan to do this, you are legally required to use the tiny house only as additional living space, such as an office, gym or studio. However, you are not allowed to rent the space to a tenant.
For those of you who live on agricultural land, what is defined as curtilage can be complicated. In these cases, and in any circumstances where you are unsure, we recommend that you contact your local planning officer.
You can place a tiny house on your land as a temporary structure for 28 days. If you want to stay longer, we recommend you contact your local planning officer, as other permits are required.
