Phoebe Burgess reveals how she turns to her children to cope with ‘traumatic or painful’ moments in her life – after split from Sam Burgess

Phoebe Burgess has opened up about her split from ex-husband Sam Burgess.

The 35-year-old influencer and the NRL star split in 2019. Phoebe says she has since focused on the former couple’s two children: daughter Poppy, seven, and son Billy, five.

“I think I’ve created an environment where my kids are the answer, if that makes sense,” she said Nine Honey on sunday.

“When something feels particularly mentally difficult, traumatic, or painful, we have these things that we fall back on.”

Phoebe says she moved to her sprawling estate in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales so her children would feel “grounded.”

“I want them to know and feel every day that they are at the top of my list, that they are Mom’s priority and number one,” she says.

Phoebe previously said her two children saved her from despair during the breakup.

“That was the only thing I held on to. That was it. They needed me,” Phoebe said in the emotional final episode of her Under the gloss podcasting.

Phoebe, who split with the controversial Rabbitohs star for the second and final time in October 2019, continued: ‘So I still had to be here [for the children].

“What keeps you going is that they need you,” she said.

Sam and Phoebe married in 2015, divorced in late 2018 and resumed their relationship in early 2019.

On October 2 of that year, they separated for good and later divorced.

Phoebe revealed intimate details about the split on her podcast during an emotional chat with Sky News journalist Jacinta Tynan, a single mother of two.

The blonde beauty told Jacinta that after the split with Sam, she wasn’t sure what the next step would be for the family.

“If you look at the reality, for your four-year-old and your six-year-old, you need to get up off the floor because they need breakfast, they need uniforms and they need to go to school,” she said.

“And I think keeping the innocence and simplicity of their little routines, their little expectations and what they know mommy provides, has been my lifeline for me.

‘That was the only solid thing I held on to. That was it. They needed me.

“So I still had to be there, I still had to get up and do it all over again – and everything else is just noise.”

Meanwhile, Sam has moved on with fashion designer Lucy Graham and the engaged couple welcomed their first child together in September.

“If something feels particularly mentally difficult or traumatic or painful, we have these things that we can always fall back on,” Phoebe said of her children
