The USfrom Pennsylvania has become an internet sensation thanks to the large pig that has gathered fans all over the world.

According to Valerie, the five-year-old “pet” is a “Vietnamese pot-bellied pig with a big character.”

The animal lover recounted their bizarre journey and said Homer had a tough start in life as the piglet was reportedly small and blind in one eye.

”I found him in a corner of the piggy bank.

“The woman who was his biological mother was very keen to find him a home and asked if I would take him home with her.”

Without any hesitation, Valerie said yes and so their unusual adventure began.

Since then, their bond has grown stronger and Homer is now an indispensable part of their family, as she is of her friends and companions.

Pigs are so smart and entertaining, and Homer is no exception.

“I love sharing videos of his antics and showing people that pigs can be great pets by showing his daily routine,” said Valerie, whose TikTok page @homerthepighas gained more than 830,000 followers.

”Homer is having a great time here in the countryside, with plenty of room to move around.

”He has a best friend, a cat, and a few chickens and guinea fowl.

“I hope you enjoy watching him interact with us as much as we enjoy sharing him with you!” she said on their YouTube channel.

In addition to being able to chill and spend time with the other family pets, Homer is also allowed to roam around the family home. He even has his own bed in Valerie’s bedroom.

The pig, who celebrated his birthday earlier this year, sleeps next to Valerie and waits patiently for the redhead to tuck him in for bed.

The bed, complete with a frame with his name on it, also features a pig-themed blanket, a soft pillow and several toys to keep him company at night.

According to Valerie, once the summer heats up, she’ll turn on the air conditioning for Homer, who likes to be cool. He never says no to blankets, though.

Keeping a pig as a pet, also called a ‘micro pig’

Fancy a big pet? Here’s what you need to know…

The UK government website states:: ”If you keep a pig or ‘micropig’ as a pet, you are considered a pig farmer. You must follow the same traceability and welfare rules as pig farmers.

”As a caretaker, you are legally responsible for the welfare of your pig. You must ensure this by:

  • providing a suitable place to live
  • to give it an appropriate diet
  • to ensure that it can behave naturally and normally
  • protection against pain, suffering, injury and disease.
  • You must follow good hygiene and biosecurity standards to help prevent the introduction and spread of diseases.”

”Homer is always wrapped in blankets in the winter. Even in the summer and with air conditioning, he loves his little blankets.

“He’s had this since he was a little boy,” she explained in the now viral video.

While the duo seem to have a great bond, some social media users were still surprised by their bizarre bedtime routine and the fact that they had a large pet pig.

Someone wrote: “I hope this level of insanity never hits me.”

Another was equally astonished, writing: “Ridiculous, this makes no sense.”

Someone else joined in the conversation and joked, “Where’s Dr. Phil to explain this to me.”

But most of the reactions were positive – and there were also plenty of people who were jealous of Homer.

“I wish someone took care of me as well as Homer,” one Instagram user wrote.

”Animals deserve a good night’s sleep too! GN Homer!” one fan agreed.

“Homer has a bigger bed than me,” someone else shouted.
