Laura Fairley shared tips she’s learned from observing people who are willing to ignore traditional beauty rules.

RULE BREAKER
Fairley said there are “no hard and fast rules” when it comes to applying makeup.
You can boost your self-confidence by focusing on feeling good when you look in the mirror.
“I love watching other people apply their makeup, especially if it’s somewhere fun, like on the train, and I can see the whole process from start to finish,” she said.
“We all have our own quirks when it comes to the way we apply makeup, routines and rituals. I will never forget seeing someone use a safety pin to separate their lashes after applying mascara.
“But this is not a tip I would personally recommend.”
She shared that it’s not just strangers who inspire her makeup techniques.

“I’m in my 40s now, but I still find it fascinating to watch my mom do her makeup,” she said.
“She can do her face in about five minutes, using just her fingers, no brushes or beauty blender, and she looks radiant every time.”
GLAM GUIDANCE
Experimenting with makeup methods can be fun, but Fairley says it’s important to make sure your skin is properly prepped before you begin.
“If skin isn’t hydrated, makeup will stick to dry patches and wear off over the course of the day,” she says.
“I like to start with a little water and massage a hydrating moisturizer deep into the skin to plump it and bring it to life before applying makeup.”
Switching out your lipstick for a more flattering color can enhance your makeup look.

Sticking to the same products and not being willing to try something new can be a big mistake.
“As we age, we experience changes in our skin such as pigmentation, uneven skin tone, and our hair color may become lighter or darker,” she said.
“What was once good for us no longer serves us and with a few simple adjustments it can make all the difference.
“For example, don’t use a hard black eyeliner, but a flattering brown eyeliner and blend it out. This gives a modern, fresh look.
“Also, swapping out your lipstick for a flattering color can really help elevate your makeup look. And as for your eyes, avoid anything too shiny.”
Laura Fairley previously revealed her favorite products for a youthful glow on mature skin.
She said that light liquid foundations and cream blushes, bronzers and highlighters are hydrating.
Keep glitter to a minimum on the eyelids and cheekbones so that fine lines don’t stand out.
Lip products with a soft, hydrating texture are better than liquid lip stains, which can crease or look dull.
