Xiaomi SU7 EV officially announced, confirmed to run on HyperOS

Xiaomi’s first launch event that’s explicitly focused on EV tech is happening later today (December 28). Ahead of that, the electronics brand has released a teaser on social media that offers a glimpse of the company’s first-ever passenger car, an all-electric sedan called the Xiaomi SU7. The SU in the name stands for Speed ​​Ultra. The four-wheeler is confirmed to come with Xiaomi’s HyperOS operating system. The EV is shown in a sedan-like design, with a gray tint, five-spoke alloy wheels paired with Michelin tires.

Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi Posted the first official look at the upcoming Xiaomi SU7 via X (formerly Twitter). The post comes with a caption — “Hello, Xiaomi SU7 Welcome to Human x Car x Home” — suggesting that the four-wheeler will be integrated with smartphone and smart home accessories. It’s confirmed to be powered by the HyperOS operating system.

The poster shows a grey finish for the Xiaomi SU7. It can be seen with a sedan-like design with five-spoke alloy wheels paired with Michelin tires with a Mi logo on the hubcaps. The side mirror seems to feature a camera similar to a Tesla car. Lei Jun had already announced that the company was prioritizing smart technology in the new EV by taking inspiration from advanced car systems like the Tesla Model S. He has posted a few interesting posts details about the Xiaomi SU7, including the meaning behind its name.

Xiaomi has already announced that it will be hosting the company’s first EV launch event outside of China on December 28, dubbed “Stride.” The event will kick off at 2pm Beijing time (11:30am IST) and will last for three hours. The event won’t see a product launch, but Lei Jun confirmed that the focus will be on the technology behind Xiaomi’s first electric car.

The company has not released any technical specifications for the SU7. It is currently in trial production and will be released in the domestic market within a few months. Pricing details are still under wraps, but Lei Jun promised that it will “exceed your expectations.”

It is likely that Xiaomi will unveil at least three different models with different ranges and features – Xiaomi SU7, Xiaomi SU7 Pro, and Xiaomi SU7 Ultra. The Xiaomi SU7 is expected to hit a speed of 210 km/h for the lower-end model while the SU7 Max variant can offer a speed of up to 265 km/h.
