Sonic the Hedgehog 3 now has a trailergiving fans their first look at Keanu Reeves as new arch-villain Shadow the Hedgehog ahead of the film’s December 20 release.
In the trailer, Sonic (Ben Schwartz), Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey), and Knuckles (Idris Elba) confront Shadow, who is presented as a sort of dark twin to Sonic, but one fueled by sadness and darkness rather than love and friendship. The gang enlists the help of Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey), who has grown out his hair. We also meet a new surprise character at the end of the trailer.
The series’ mix of humor, CGI characters, and top voice actors has made the first two video game adaptations hits. The first film, released in 2020, grossed $302 million worldwide, and its sequel did even better, grossing $405 million. Both are streaming on Paramount Plus.
The character Shadow was introduced in a mid-credits scene after Sonic 2, but the character did not speak in that scene. The third film in the trilogy was announced in early 2022.
