Capcom veteran Hideaki Itsuno is leaving the company after three decades to develop a new game.
The The devil may cry And The Dogma of the Dragon series director took over X/Twitter to share a statement about his departure from the company. Itsuno thanks fans for their continued support and confirms that he will be working on a brand new game outside of Capcom.
“Starting in September, I’ll be developing a new game in a new environment,” Itsuno wrote. “I hope to create fun, beautiful games that are just as memorable as, or even more memorable than, the games I’ve made so far. Stay tuned for my next creation!”
Itsuno’s most recent role as director was for this year Dragon Dogma 2. Despite the game’s poor optimization and performance at launch, it shipped over 2.5 million copies in its first two weeks of sales. The game also set a record for the number of concurrent players for a Capcom game on Steam on its launch day.
Although Itsuno is best known for his work on the The devil may cry And The Dogma of the Dragon series, he also directed some of Capcom’s best fighting games, including Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001, Star Gladiator, Project Justice and the Power stone series. Some of these names may sound familiar, as they will appear on the recently announced Capcom Fighting Collection 2 scheduled for launch sometime in 2025.
Until then, you can of course still manage with the soon to be launched Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, which will be released on September 12 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Steam.
