  • Question asked during romantic weekend away
  • Taulagi’s Cowboys play the Bulldogs on Saturday

Cowboys winger and Maroons star Murray Taulagi’s heartwarming marriage proposal has been accepted by his long-term partner Claudia Schroder during a romantic weekend away.

Taulagi, who has worked at the occupational therapy assistant since 2017, popped the question while on holiday in Whian Whian, 25 kilometres north of Lismore in the Northern Rivers hinterland.

On Monday, Schroder shared a post on social media announcing the happy news, captioning it: “Forever yours 31.08.24.”

The post, which featured photos of the smiling couple and the engagement ring, prompted an outpouring of congratulations for the couple.

“Yieewww! Congrats guys!” posted Cowboys teammate Valentine Holmes.

Xavier Coates, Harry Grant and Reece Walsh also posted similar messages.

Taulagi has become an indispensable part of the Cowboys team in recent years, terrorizing opponents with his speed and skill.

The Cowboys will be hoping for a home finale in the final round of the regular season when they take on the Bulldogs.

The winner will finish fifth and advance to the semi-finals, while the loser will rely on Manly’s defeat by Cronulla on Sunday to remain sixth and also advance to the final.

The Cowboys beat Melbourne 38-30 last week, a team with a weaker strength, but they should do better against the Dogs.

The team have signed a three-year extension to co-captain Reuben Cotter, keeping him in Townsville until the end of 2028.

Taulagi said Cotter “is the epitome of what it means to be a cowboy, not just on the field but off the field as well.”

“You want that guy on your team. You don’t want to play against him. I’m very fortunate to have come through the ranks with him,” Taulagi said.

“We’ve represented together in Origin and for Australia. Whatever shirt he puts on, he gives it 100 per cent and to be our captain until 2028… we’re very lucky.”

Cotter would never leave.

“It was a no-brainer for me and my family,” Cotter said.

‘My wife is from the Burdekin and I am from Mackay so it was only natural for me to stay here and I am very much looking forward to renewing my membership of the club.

‘I’m incredibly grateful for what has happened in recent years, especially after what happened (with injuries) at the beginning of my career.

“I’m excited about what we’re building. I’m excited about playing with this group and what we’re working towards… obviously a premiership.”

Cotter had no natural talent as a footballer, but his dedication and selflessness made him a player all his colleagues enjoyed playing with.

“I’ve never had a lot of skill. Growing up I was always a worker and that’s something I always wanted to build my game around as I came up through the ranks,” he said.
