reMarkable Paper Pro claims to be the world’s thinnest color paper tablet
reMarkable has announced its latest paper tablet model, called the Paper Pro. The new name hints at a new series of products from the company, but will not replace the existing reMarkable 2 that recently went on sale in India. The reMarkable Paper Pro comes with several new features over the existing paper tablet model, including a brand new display, improved design, and new accessories, including a new Book Folio case and a new Type Folio case.
The reMarkable Paper Pro is currently available for pre-order only in the US and comes with a standard Marker stylus for $579 (approximately Rs. 48,600) or a Marker Plus stylus for $629 (approximately Rs. 52,800).
The reMarkable Paper Pro gets a new aluminum and glass design that appears to be thicker than the reMarkable 2 we recently reviewed . The new custom-made Canvas Color display might sound like a big deal, but it only allows for nine different colors when writing or sketching on the tablet. When viewing or reading documents, the company claims it supports thousands of colors. The 11.8-inch display also has a built-in reading light, which should be a big upgrade over the reMarkable 2, which required an external light source to be readable in dim or dark environments. It’s unclear if this front light adjusts automatically like some of Amazon’s Kindle e-readers.
No details were revealed about processing speeds (or the addition of a faster processor) to power the spartan user interface. But reMarkable does note that the new display reduces latency to 12 milliseconds when using the Marker stylus, which the company says is a 40 percent improvement over the reMarkable 2 tablet.
In terms of security, the tablet still lacks a biometric form of authentication, relying on a passcode to lock the device. The company also claims that its new tablet can last for 2 weeks on a single charge.
reMarkable’s new tablet works with the older Marker and Marker Plus styli. A larger form factor has resulted in a new set of accessories. The Book Folio for reMarkable Paper Pro comes in six colors and finishes and starts at $89. It features an auto wake-up feature, which isn’t available on the reMarkable 2 and its accessories.
There’s also a new Type Folio for the reMarkable Paper Pro case. This time around, the keys are backlit, which is another upgrade over the existing model. It too features the auto wake-up feature when opened, along with a magnetic Marker band.
