Three toddlers are fighting for their lives after their home in Melbourne’s north-western suburbs went up in flames, with police calling in arson and explosives experts.
At around 9.30pm on Sunday evening, emergency services were called to a home on Fergus Court in Sydenham following reports of a house fire.
Firefighters entered the home to fight the fire and found three children, all believed to be under the age of five. They were treated at the scene by paramedics.
Three young children were rescued from the home and immediately received medical attention.
The children were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Smoke damage to adjacent buildings is being assessed, but the fire has not spread.
An investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the fire.
“Detectives and a fire expert will be on site this morning,” a police spokesperson said Monday morning.
“No one else was injured in the fire. Investigators are trying to determine if anyone else was in the home at the time of the fire or just before the fire.”
Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
