‘Politics of creating division’: Amit Shah targets Rahul Gandhi over ‘Sikh’, ‘reservation’ remarks in US | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday attacked Rahul Gandhi over his recent remarks on religious freedom in India, accusing the Congress leader of aligning himself with forces that want to sow division in the country.
“It has become a habit for Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party to align themselves with forces that conspire to divide the country and make anti-national statements,” Shah said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“Be it supporting the anti-national and anti-reservation agenda of the JKNC in J&K or making anti-India statements on foreign platforms, Rahul Gandhi has always threatened the country’s security and hurt sentiments,” Shah added.

Rahul Gandhi accused the RSS of considering certain religions, languages and communities inferior to others. He said that the fight in India is not about politics but about the rights of individuals to practice their religion freely. Rae Bareli MP specifically asked a Sikh present: “What is your name, brother with the turban?” and then said: “The fight is about whether a Sikh can wear his turban in India or a kada in India. Or whether he, as a Sikh, can go to a gurdwara. That is the fight. And not just for him, for all religions.”
Banned Khalistani terror group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) endorsed Rahul’s remarks and said it vindicated SFJ’s global Khalistan referendum campaign. SFJ leader Gurpatwant described Gandhi’s remarks as “bold and path-breaking” Singh Pannun said: “Rahul’s statement about ‘existential threat to Sikhs in India’ is not only bold and groundbreaking but is also firmly grounded in the factual history of what Sikhs have experienced under successive regimes in India since 1947. It also reaffirms SFJ’s stand on the justification of the Punjab Independence Referendum to establish the Sikh homeland of Khalistan.”
Shah criticised his remarks and said, “Rahul Gandhi’s statements expose the politics of the Congress, which is aimed at sowing divisions on the basis of regionalism, religion and language differences.”
Shah also slammed Rahul for his remarks on reservation and said it has once again brought out the anti-reservation face of the Congress. “By talking about abolishing reservations in the country, Rahul Gandhi has once again brought out the anti-reservation face of the Congress. The thoughts that were in his mind finally found their way out as words. I want to tell Rahul Gandhi that as long as the BJP is there, nobody can abolish reservations and nobody can mess with the security of the country,” Shah said.
Shah’s remarks were in response to Gandhi’s statement to students at Georgetown University in the United States. The Congress leader said his party would consider abolishing reservations when “India is a fair place”, which he said is not the case at present.
