Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh criticise Rahul Gandhi’s ‘divisive’, ‘anti-national’ views | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Rahul Gandhi’s comments on reservations and claim that Sikhs were not allowed wearing a turban and kada and visiting gurdwaras degenerated into a full-scale political spat with Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh criticising the Congress functionary for his “divisive” and “anti-national” remarks.
“Be it supporting the anti-national and anti-reservation agenda of JKNC in J&K or making anti-India statements on foreign platforms, Rahul has always threatened the country’s security and hurt sentiments,” Shah wrote on X on a day when Khalistani separatist group Gurpatwant Singh Pannun backed Rahul’s claim that Sikhs are being denied their rights.
Shah said Rahul’s statement exposed the Congress’s policy of creating rifts on issues of regionalism, religion and language. “By talking about abolishing reservations in the country, Rahul has once again brought out the anti-reservation face of the Congress. The thoughts that were in his mind finally found their way out as words,” the home minister said.
Shah further said, “I want to tell Rahul that as long as the BJP is there, no one can abolish reservations and no one can disturb the security of the country.”
Singh said Rahul’s “baseless and misleading” statements during his foreign tour were extremely shameful and denigrated the dignity of India. “Rahul has said that the Sikh community in India is not allowed to wear turbans, they are being prevented from behaving according to their religion. This is completely baseless and far from the truth,” he added. Singh said Rahul’s claims about the border dispute between India and China were also misleading.
Former minister Anurag Thakur cited the Congress’ campaign for the 1991 Lok Sabha elections and said opposition to quota ran in Rahul’s family.
