Bomb threat: Suspicious bag found in RG Kar Medical College and hospital in Kolkata | India News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: A suspicious bag was found at a deserted agitation spot of the young doctors in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical Hospital and University.
According to authorities, a bomb squad is on the scene and security forces have cordoned off the area.
Meanwhile, the young doctors continue their sit-in outside the West Bengal Health Department‘s office and their ‘work on strike’ over the alleged rape and murder of a young doctor in the capital’s hospital.
A large number of police officers have been deployed in and around ‘Swathya Bhavan‘ in Salt Lake, and traffic was regulated.
The state government had invited the protesting doctors for a meeting at the state secretariat Nabanna at 6 pm on Wednesday, but the invite did not confirm whether Banerjee would be present.
The protests began after the body of the postgraduate trainee was found with serious injuries at RG Kar hospital on August 9. The CBI is conducting an investigation on the directions of the Calcutta High Court.
The young doctors have since been demanding justice for the woman doctor, as well as stricter security measures for female healthcare professionals. They also want several officials, including the Kolkata police chief and the state health secretary, to be suspended for alleged mishandling of the case.
