BRS MLA offers ‘saris, bangles’ to defectors, Congress leader responds with shoes | India News – Times of India


NEW DELHI: BRS-MLA P Kaushik Reddy‘s offer to send sarees and bangles 10 party legislators who defected to Congress were met with a fierce response from the Congress leader B Shobha Raniwho took off her shoes and warned the BRS MLA about his remarks.
Reddy’s comments sparked outrage in the ruling party female leaderswho demanded an immediate apology.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Huzurabad constituency MLA Reddy said, “If the defected MLAs have any shame or guts, they should first resign and contest fresh elections. I will send all of them saris and bangles. They should wear them and move around in public.” He also threatened to send the items to the residences of the defected MLAs by courier.
Rani, chairperson of Telangana State Women’s Cooperative Development Corporation, criticised Reddy for insulting women with his disrespectful remarks and said, “A woman is the president of the country. It was a woman, Sonia Gandhi, who granted Telangana statehood. Women were at the forefront of Telangana’s struggle. Kaushik Reddy has insulted women with his nonsense talk.”
Women leaders in the Congress were upset over Reddy’s remarks and said he should first send the items to BRS chairman K Chandrasekhar Rao and working president KT Rama Rao, alleging that they had initiated the defections.
They also called on the Telangana State Women’s Commission to take cognizance of Reddy’s remarks and urged its chairperson to suspend him from the assembly. They threatened to file a police complaint against him.
Ten BRS MPs and several BRS MPs joined the Congress after the 2023 state assembly elections, ending the decade-long rule of the BRS in Telangana.
BRS legislators KP Vivekanand and Kaushik Reddy met the Secretary of the State Legislative Assembly on Wednesday and requested that the petitions seeking expulsion of three party members who had joined the Congress be placed before the Speaker for scheduling a hearing, as ordered by the Telangana High Court.
