UP deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak attacks Samajawadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav over his ‘fake encounter’ allegations | India News – Times of India

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Brajesh Pathak on Thursday slammed the Samajawadi Party (SP) over allegations made by SP leader Akhilesh Yadav, who accused the BJP government in the state of turning Uttar Pradesh into “the capital of fake encounters”.
“Since 2017, law and order has improved in Uttar Pradesh. The general public is living in a fair and fear-free environment,” the Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister said, reiterating that the “government’s job” is to curb crime.
This development comes after Akhilesh Yadav said the government was mainly targeting people from Pichde, Dalit and Alpasankhyak (PDA) families in the many clashes.
“In Uttar Pradesh, there have been many encounters where fingers have been raised… The government has targeted most of the people from PDA families in many encounters. BJP has made Uttar Pradesh the capital of fake encounters,” Yadav said.
Speaking about the recent encounter that took place in Sultanpur, Brajesh Pathak said, “The encounter incident in Sultanpur has prompted the opposition to raise questions. The opposition is portraying these criminals as their own criminals.”
“The criminals involved were killed or arrested during the police operation,” he added.
Pathak attacked the Samajwadi Party and said the SP leader was not supporting the person who had become the victim of the crime or murder in the Sultanpur incident.
“The Samajwadi Party is alleging that the clashes are taking place on the basis of caste,” Brajesh Pathak said. He clarified that the police have conducted a thorough investigation, collected evidence and arrested the criminals.
“In the Sultanpur robbery, the police have arrested the criminals. One of them was killed in an encounter and more than two and a half kilograms of gold has been seized from the criminals,” said Brajesh Pathak.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also strongly criticised the BJP government over alleged encounters in the state.
“Mangesh Yadav’s meeting in Sultanpur has once again proved that BJP does not believe in ‘Rule of Law’. Professional forces like STF are being run as ‘criminal gangs’ under the BJP government, the silence of the central government on this is their clear agreement on this ‘thoko policy’. Dozens of meetings of UP STF are under discussion. Has any action been taken against any of those officers so far? After all, who is saving them and why. Touching the Constitution in front of the cameras is just a pretext, while your own governments are openly tearing it to shreds,” Rahul Gandhi wrote in a post on X.
