Lucy Letby: Live updates as medical experts present ‘significant new evidence’ in case of serial child killer

Medical experts from all over the world will present today what is described as 'significant new evidence' in the case of serial child murderer Lucy Letby.

Letby, 35, from Hereford, was sentenced to the orders of 15 whole lifespan after she was convicted of killing seven babies and tried to kill seven others while working as a neonatal nurse at the Countess of the Chester Hospital.

Lawyers representing Letby are planning to submit an application to the Independent Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC), who investigates potential legal abuse of legal employees after its conviction and punishment.

And today a 'Blue Riband Committee' of 14 neonatalogists will reveal their analysis of the baby deaths during a press conference in London.

Live updates below

Nadine Dorries today writes in the Daily Mail that she will be in the front row at today's press conference.

She believes that what reveals the press conference, “Turbo must dismantle the case of prosecution against the former neonatal nurse.”

Is the police still investigating Lucy Letby?

Detectives from Cheshire Constabulary continue their assessment of the care of around 4,000 babies who were admitted to the hospital, while Letby worked as a neonatal nurse.

The period covers its time in the countess of Chester Hospital from January 2012 to the end of June 2016 and includes two work placements in the Liverpool Women's Hospital in 2012 and 2015.

Letby has been interviewed on HMP Bronzefield in Ashford, Surrey, under caution with regard to the continuous investigation into baby star and non-fatal collapses. She maintains her innocence.

Lucy left a neonatal nurse in the Chester Hospital whose house in Chester and parents in Hereford is attended by the police. A female caregiver was arrested on suspicion of the murder of eight babies and the attempted murder of another six after an investigation into the neonatal unit at the Countess of the Chester Hospital. What happens to the public investigation?

A public investigation into how Letby was able to commit her crimes began to hear evidence in September, with the conclusion of legal entries that were expected in March.

The research results of Lady Justice Thirlwall are expected to be published this fall.

The research will investigate how the nurse was able to kill babies on the neonatal unit of the countess of the Chester Hospital. Letby was convicted of the murders of seven babies and the attempted murders of seven others, with two attempts in one child, when she worked on the neonatal unit between June 2015 and June 2016. As a result, only the fourth woman in the history of the UK is told that she will never be released from prison. Photo Date: Monday, September 9, 2024. Pa photo. See PA recovery research Letby. What is Letby's legal team to do?

Lawyers for Letby are planning to submit an application to the Independent Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC), which investigates potential miscarriages of justice and can refer cases to the Court of Appeal for consideration.

Letby lost two bids last year to challenge her convictions before the Court of Appeal – in May for seven murders and seven attempted murders, and in October for the attempted murder of a baby girl for which she was convicted by another jury in one New process.

Separately from the CCRC application, lawyers will also request permission from the Court of Appeal to submit an application to reopen Letby's case on the basis of the fact that Dr. Dewi Evans, the main expert medical expert in her process, was “not reliable”.

Retired advisor -HinderArts Dr. Evans said that concern about his evidence was “unfounded, unfounded, inaccurate”.

Who is at today's press conference?

Among those on the panel of experts is retired drug Dr Shoo Lee, who co-author of an academic paper from 1989 about air embolism in babies that was prominent was present in Letby's 10 months test.

Dr. Lee, who founded the Canadian neonatal network with 27 hospitals and 16 universities, has told the Sunday Times that he believed that his findings about skin discoloration were misinterpreted by the persecution.

Tory former minister Sir David Davis, who used questions about the judiciary in the Lower House last week to express their concern on behalf of Letby's Legal Team, will be chairman of today's panel and the lawyer of the former nurse, Mark McDonald, will also be present .

Sir David, the Member of Parliament for Goole and Pocklington, wants a new process for Letby and said he believes that it will free her from misconduct.

The legal team of Lucy Letby will launch a final bid today to destroy the 15 life orders of the Child Serial Killer. Read the full sample story of MailOnline here:
