The American Navy has released beautiful images that shows its incredible new drone-destroying laser weapon in action for the first time.
The Helios system was tested on board the USS Preble, with photos that shoot its clear bar of an unmanned air vehicle from the sky.
Helios, which stands for a high laser with integrated optical dazzler and surveillance, was developed by Lockheed Martin in 2021 and delivered to the navy a year later.
The system shoots more than 60 kilowatt -oriented energy, enough to feed a maximum of 60 houses, with the speed of light and can touch goals up to five miles away.
It is designed to prevent a series of threats, including drones, small boats and possibly incoming rockets.
Helios is also designed to disturb the intelligence and reconnaissance sensors on enemy ships.
Testing is because threats against American warships grow as foreign nations grow their arsenals with drones and anti-ship missiles.
The US Naval Institute said in a recent report: “The drone threat has been around for years, but the navy still has to give priority to defending against these easily acquired weapons.”
The American Navy performed the first tests of his drone-kill laser weapon
The images showed the ray that focused on a drone above the ship and shot them in a ball of flames
“Expecting that sailors shoot twice a year on a range of hunting rifles, guns or machine guns, to be able to involve several small, fast -moving goals, is unreasonable,” the report added.
'Even if a few sailors were expert shooters who were able to shoot drones, it would probably take a few minutes from the first report of a potential drone to identify the drone, raise the alarm and important weapons and accompanying To bring ammunition to the threat – time that the ship may not have. '
But the navy sees its new helios as a way to fight back and shows off its possibilities on the open ocean.
The US Center for Countermeasures (CCM) has released details about the tests, SWNS reported.
The images showed the ray that focused on a drone above the ship and shot them in a ball of flames.
'CCM supported the demonstration of the Navy on USS Preble (DDG 88) to verify and validate the functionality, performance and possibilities of hell with integrated optical dazzler and surveillance system against an uncomfortable aviation goal in a report.
The weapon was integrated into the battle system of the ship, improving the target detection and tracking options.

Helios can fire as long as it has strength that it collects from the ship.
And because the power source of the ship is constantly supplemented, the laser has an unlimited power supply.
The test comes as a domestic security adviser and billionaire Marc Andreessen suggested that AI-driven Jets will be the most important hunters in future wars.
Speaking on the podcast of Joe Rogan Experience in November, Andreessen said that Jets who prevent the speed of the sound five times, Mach 5, more often within a few years. '
“Image a thousand of these things that come on the horizon,” said Andreessen. “It really changes the fundamental war comparison.”
He explains that instead of needing most soldiers and materials to win, people with the most technology and money will take over.
Andreessen also noticed that there are 'a lot of reasons' why he believes that a future of AI-Papered fighter jets is almost inevitable.
“Part of it is simply the speed of processing,” Andreessen explained.
'But the other big thing is, if you don't have a one on the plane, you don't have that […] “The spam in the can.” '
“You don't have the human body on the plane to stay alive, which means that you can be much faster,” continued the billionaire advisor of the White House, “much higher G-forces.”
