But one bargain hunter has found a way to keep the cold out all winter long – he picked up a garment for £12.50.

Melis shared his find on social media and wrote: “Anyone looking for thermal curtains for balcony door or front door!!!!

“Argos Thermal door curtain in 4 colours: grey, anthracite, green. I don’t remember the other colour. Available in 2 different sizes. I chose 117 x 213 cm. Fits perfectly and touches the floor a little bit.

“Fully lined, quite heavy and great value for money. Both sizes are currently 50% off.

“This is urgently needed now and in the coming cold months.”

Normally the curtains cost £25, but they were now on sale for half price: £12.50.

Not only is it sensible to stock up now, when the UK is already cold, but it will also ensure that your home stays nice and warm all winter long.

And they can also help you save money on your energy bills by insulating your home.

Research by ESS shows that curtains alone can reduce your energy consumption by 15%.

This could save you up to £30 per year on your energy bill.

Nine tips to heat your home, dry your clothes and prevent mold in the winter

The post was a hit on the Facebook group, Extreme Couponing and Bargains UKwhere many people liked the post and tagged friends to let them know about the money-saving offer.

One member of the group said they were tempted by the purchase, writing: “We’ve had ours for years now, I can’t remember how much we paid for it but it’s well worth the money! And it washes beautifully too!”

“But when I see this, I think I’ll buy one for the back door too.”

According to Argos bosses: “This thermal curtain is perfect for hanging over a draughty door. It blocks out draughts and keeps your home nice and warm.

5 Ways to Keep Your Home Warm in Winter

Real estate expert Joshua Houston shared his tips.

1. Curtains

“Windows are an easy way to bring the cold in from outside, because of the small gaps that allow air to enter. So always close your curtains when it gets dark,” he says.

This simple method creates an extra layer of warmth, because a kind of insulation is created between your window and curtain.

2. Carpets

“Your floors are another area in your home where heat can be lost and your home can feel cold,” he continued. “You may find that on cold days, your floors are uncomfortable to walk on because your feet freeze.

“Put down carpets in places where there is no carpet yet. This provides an insulating layer between the bare floor and the room above.”

3. Check your insulation

Check your pipes, attic space, crawl spaces and under floorboards.

“Loose insulation is great for this and is also a cheaper form of insulation. A large bag costs around £30,” explains Joshua.

4. Keep your interior doors closed

“Households often gather in one room in the evening, usually the kitchen or living room,” Joshua said.

“This means that you only need to heat a small part of your home. By closing the doors, you keep the heat in and the cold out.”

5. Block concepts

Don’t forget to check cat flaps, chimneys and letterboxes as they can let in cold air if they are not closed properly.

“Made of thick material, it keeps the heat in and the cold out, meaning you spend less money on central heating.

“In addition to the thermal properties, it also ensures that the room becomes darker and that you have more privacy.”

Another home decor addition that can make a big difference is rugs, says real estate expert Joshua Houston.

“Your floor is another area in your home where heat can be lost and make your home feel cold,” Joshua explained to Household quotes.

“On cold days you may notice that your floor is not Nice to walk on because your feet freeze.

“Therefore, place carpets in places where there is no carpet yet. This creates an insulating layer between the bare floor and the room above.”
