We must eradicate untouchability completely: RSS leader Mohan Bhagwat | India News – Times of India
ALWAR: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday stressed the need to untouchability all the way from the countryside.
Addressing an RSS meeting at the Indira Gandhi Sports Ground in Alwar, Bhagwat said, “This (untouchability) sentiment should be completely eradicated. This change should be brought about by transforming the mindset of the society. Social Harmony is the key to driving this transformation.”
Bhagwat called upon the volunteers to embody five key areas in their lives: social harmony, environmental conservationfamily awareness, a sense of self-worth and civil disciplineHe added that when volunteers integrate these values into their lives, society will follow.
He noted that next year marks the 100th anniversary of the RSS. He urged the volunteers to fully understand the ideas behind the work they do and to always keep those principles in mind while carrying out their duties.
He stressed the need to strengthen the nation. “Our nation must be made strong.”
“We have said in our prayers that this is a Hindu nation because the Hindu society is responsible for it. If anything good happens in this country, the glory of Hindu society increases, and if anything goes wrong, Hindu society is held responsible because it is the steward of the nation,” Bhagwat added.
The RSS leader further stated that it takes hard work and collective effort to make the country prosperous and powerful.
He explained that what we call Hinduism is in fact a universal human religion: a religion of humanity that strives for the welfare of all.
“A Hindu is the most generous person in the world, one who accepts everything and has goodwill towards everyone. Hindus are the descendants of brave ancestors who use knowledge not to create conflict but to spread wisdom, use wealth not for pleasure but for charity, and use strength to protect the weak. This is the character and culture of a Hindu, irrespective of the form of worship, language, caste, region or customs. Anyone who adheres to these values and follows this culture is a Hindu,” he said.
He also stressed the need for environmental conservation. According to him, consciousness is present everywhere in the Hindu tradition and therefore one should take responsibility for the care of the environment.
“Start with small actions: save water, stop using single-use plastics, plant trees and transform your home into a green home with gardens and other green spaces, both for yourself and for the community,” he said.
Bhagwat expressed his concern over the declining values of family life in India as the younger generation quickly forgets traditions. He advised families to gather once a week for prayers, eat together and make plans to serve the society.
He also stressed the importance of self-reliance and austerity, urging people to buy locally made products and to buy foreign goods only when necessary and on their terms. “It is essential to embrace austerity in life and to devote time to social service, not as charity but as a duty,” the RSS chief said.
Bhagwat also stressed the need for civic discipline and reminded everyone that as citizens of this country they should be aware of their responsibilities.
Mohan Bhagwat then visited Matri Smriti Van, where he planted trees to protect the environment.
