‘Tortured’ by UP cops, Dalit boy dies; probe underway | India News – Times of India

BAREILLY: A 16-year-old Dalit boypicked up by Kheri Police on September 3 for alleged theft and then “tortured“, died in hospital in Lakhimpur Kheri on Saturday, reports Kanwardeep Singh.
The boy’s family and residents of Sisawan Kala village blocked a highway in front of the local police station for hours after they demanded an initial complaint against the “guilty officers” who “offered the family money not to report the case”.
SHO (Fardhan) Rajesh Kumar initiated an investigation and three officers were allegedly found “negligent” and “appropriate action was recommended”.
SP Ganesh Prasad Saha told TOI, “The cause of death was blood poisoning and doctors found no injuries.”
