Number of slices of birthday cake Britons eat each September revealed
Official figures show that people devour as many as 11 pieces of birthday cake every September.
It is the busiest month for birthdays in the UK, with the 26th being the most popular day to be born.
Experts estimate that more than £40 million is spent on birthday cakes during those weeks.
They estimate that adults eat an average of four slices, while parents and children at parties may eat another seven.
Four out of five cakes are vanilla cake or chocolate cake, which can lead to ‘palette fatigue’.
To counter this, 44 percent of people under 40 have tried baking recipes from social media, while TikTok has over 140 million posts of “birthday cake inspiration.”
The most popular trends are towers of chocolate brownies or layers of marshmallow and salted caramel between chocolate bases.
Annabel Lui, co-founder of bakers Cutter and Squidge who conducted the study said: “You don’t eat the same meal 11 times a month, so why would you eat the exact same baked goods?
“While everyone loves to celebrate their birthday with a piece of cake, it can get boring to eat the same thing every time. It can lead to a ‘birthday cake burnout’.”
