YouTube Music has been spotted testing a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature that will allow users to generate unique radio stations using an experimental tool. The new feature works with text prompts, meaning users can describe what they want to listen to, and the AI will generate a radio station with similar songs in it. Previously, users could only create a radio station based on a song or artist and get recommendations for similar songs. A previous report claimed that YouTube is in talks with major record labels to use copyrighted songs to develop AI tools for its Music app.

Reddit user u/kater_pro spotted a new feature on YouTube Music that is marked as experimental. The Redditor described the feature as follows: users can write a prompt that will instantly generate a custom radio station. This is the only known report of the feature so far, so it’s unclear how widely it’s being tested at this time.
YouTube Music rival Spotify recently released a similar feature called Personalized Playlist for Premium users, which is currently in beta testing. Amazon also released a similar feature in the US called Maestro.

An image shared by the Reddit user shows that the feature is marked as “experimental.” The text on the suggestion tells users to “Ask for music any way you want.” A second screenshot shows what appears to be an AI-generated radio station.

The feature also appears to include a playlist title, along with a short description of the radio station. Several songs related to the theme requested by the user are also included in the screenshot shared by the Redditor. Several prompt suggestions for other music genres are also displayed at the bottom.
It is unclear whether they are added as a secondary filter to the existing radio or whether it triggers the AI to generate a new radio. Also visible at the bottom is the Ask for Music feature, which was recently reported.
Users who don’t yet have access to this feature can still create a standard radio channel on YouTube Music by selecting a song or artist. The algorithm will then select songs that are similar to the source. Once the new feature exits the experimental phase, it may be rolled out to more beta testers, eventually allowing all YouTube Music users to create a radio station based on what they want to listen to.
