NYT Connections Today (Contest #465) – The Answers
The answers to today’s Connections game, #465, are…
- YELLOW: ASSEMBLY PLACE OUTSIDE A RESIDENTIAL AREA DECK, VERANDA, SIDEWALK, GARDEN
- GREEN: LATEST NEWS DISH, DOPE, INFO, SCOOP
- BLUE: TYPES OF RINSES BLOOPER, DEMO, HIGHLIGHT, SIZZLE
- PURPLE: DRAWING PHOTOS OF DOGS MINUS “Y” DROOP, GOOF, BOY, SNOOP
- My rating: Simple
- My score: 1 error
Something-minus-a-letter is a favorite Connections type for purple, so I always try to spot it. Purple solving isn’t always necessary, but these types are generally easier to answer than some of the other types, as you don’t need a lot of specialist knowledge – just the ability to add a letter and form some other words. And so it was today, with SNOOP(Y), DROOP(Y), GOOF(Y), and LAD(Y) all being CARTOON DOGS MINUS “Y.”
By completing purple I didn’t have to worry about the other groups as much, as I only needed two of the three (supposedly) easier groups. I got them in the form of KINDS OF REELS (blue) and GATHERING SPOT OUTSIDE A RESIDENCE (yellow), meaning I could keep my streak going for another day.
How was your day? Send me an email and let me know.

- PURPLE: NAME HOMOPHONES DUGGED, MAT, MIC, TEF
What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is one of the increasingly popular word games from the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four items that have something in common, and each group has a different difficulty level: green is easy, yellow a bit harder, blue is often quite difficult, and purple is usually very difficult.
On the plus side, you don’t technically have to solve the last question, because you can answer it by elimination. Plus, you can make a maximum of four mistakes, which gives you some breathing room.
It is a bit more complicated than something like Wordle, however, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to trip you up with tricks. For example, watch out for homophones and other wordplay that can obscure the answers.
It is free to play via the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile.
