Sims 4 Add User Content, Make Hollywood Movie, But No Sims 5

The Sims 4 turned 10 on September 2, but don’t expect the popular social simulation game to be replaced by a fifth edition anytime soon. Kate Gorman, EA vice president and general manager of The Sims franchise, told Variety that the gaming company has no plans for a fifth Sims game, but will instead focus on updates and expansions for The Sims 4.

Gorman told Variety that Sims games were historically seen as a replacement for the numbered games that came before them, but that the company is now “expanding our universe.”

The company will continue to support The Sims 4 and provide updates, fixes, and expansion packs.

“As a result, you’ll see more ways to experience The Sims across different platforms, different ways to play, transmedia, and a lot of great offerings within this universe,” Gorman said.

She also said that by not having to start over with a new game, players can continue with the “families and generations” they built in The Sims 4.

Hollywood film, extensive involvement of the maker

In a blog post, EA reports that the new The Sims Creator Program will evolve and expand how the game works with creators, from YouTubers to designers. Interested users will need to use the already existing EA Creator Networkrequest to join and select The Sims as their primary franchise.

The company also announced that it will be partnering with Amazon MGM Studios to create a film based on The Sims. However, no release date or plot details have been shared yet.

While an EA representative told CNET that The Sims has no plans to add a multiplayer experience, there is another EA gaming project, Project Rene, that will allow players to join friends and other players in a shared location.
