NEW DELHI: The first phase of poll in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir began early on the morning of Wednesday, September 18, with over 23 lakh voters to exercise their right to choose from 219 candidatesincluding 90 independentsdivided over 24 constituencies.
This marks the first meeting election in a decade for seven districts located on both sides of the Pir Panjal mountain range. The elections will be held in eight seats in three districts of Jammu region and 16 seats in four districts of Kashmir Valley.

The 24 constituencies participating in the elections on Wednesday are: Pampore, Tral, Pulwama, Rajpora, Zainapora, Shopian, DH Pora, Kulgam, Devsar, Dooru, Kokernag (ST), Anantnag West, Anantnag, Srigufwara-Bijbehara, Shangus-Anantnag East, Pahalgam, Inderwal, Kishtwar, Padder-Nagseni, Bhadarwah, Doda, Doda West, Ramban and Banihal.

  • Waheed Para (PDP) – Pulwama

  • Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami (CPIM) – Kulgam

  • Shagun Parihar (BJP) – Kishtwar

  • Vikar Rasool Wani (Congress) – Banihal-Gool

  • Ghulam Ahmad Mir (Congress) – Bye
