‘No good policy for displaced persons… decided to set up a committee’: CM Hemant Soren after Jharkhand cabinet expansion | India News – Times of India

RANCHI: After the expansion of the cabinet, the Chief Minister of Jharkhand Hemant Soren said on Monday that there is large-scale mining activity in Jharkhand but there is no policy for displaced persons. The government has decided to set up a commission.
“Today, the cabinet expansion took place. We also had a meeting. Tomorrow everyone will start their work… a lot of mining activities are going on here… but there was no policy from the government for the people affected by it. Today we have decided to form a committee for them,” Jharkhand CM told reporters on Monday.
He further said that the state government must fulfil the responsibility given to it by the people of the state.
“Mining activities are being carried out on a large scale in Jharkhand as it has 40 percent mineral reserves in the country but no proper policy for the displaced people or those who may get displaced. Soon we will form the displacement committee and come up with more details. A socio-economic survey of the displaced people and a database would be prepared so that we can understand the ups and downs of mining and prepare a document with evidence of what our people gain and what they lose through mining activities and its impact and prepare an implementation,” he added.
Earlier, the Jharkhand government held its first ministerial meeting at Project Bhawan.
Meanwhile, Jharkhand Chief Minister Dipika Pandey Singh said farmers are the backbone of our state’s economy.
“Farmers are the backbone of our state’s economy. How they can get maximum benefit, that will be a major issue. Loan waiver will be our flagship programme,” Dipika Pandey Singh told reporters.
Jharkhand Minister Baidyanath Ram said the government would develop the education sector.
“We will work on developing the education sector. Development work will continue. In the next 3 months, we will work on delivering better results,” said Baidyanath Ram.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Mithilesh Kumar Thakur said the government was working towards achieving this goal.
“I have always been very careful with the responsibility. This time too, we have a big task ahead of us… we have to provide clean drinking water to 61 lakh houses and we have a bigger role than the Centre. In Nal Jal Yojana… the state government is doing the entire monitoring and the machinery is being provided by the state government. We are working towards achieving our target,” he said.
Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand Champai-Soren took oath as minister in the Hemant Soren-led Cabinet of Jharkhand bee Raj Bhavan in Ranchi.
Champai Soren resigned as Prime Minister on July 3, a day before JMM Executive Chairman Hemant Soren took oath as the 13th Chief Minister of Jharkhand on July 4.
Along with Champai Soren, JMM leaders Baidya Nath Ram, Babi Devi, Mithilesh Thakur, Deepak Birua and Hafizul Hasan took oath as ministers.
Congress Leaders Rameshwar Oraon, Banna Gupta, Irfan Ansari, Dipika Pandey Singh and RJD leader Satyanand Bhokta also took oath as ministers.
Earlier today, Hemant Soren won the floor test in a special session of the state assembly. Hemant Soren won the confidence vote with the votes of 45 MLAs in his favour. He was sworn in as the 13th Chief Minister of Jharkhand at Raj Bhavan, Ranchi on July 4.
Hemant Soren was released from Birsa Munda jail on June 28 after nearly five months on bail by the Jharkhand High Court in a money laundering case related to an alleged land fraud.
He had already resigned as Chief Minister before his arrest on January 31. In January, he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on charges of alleged land fraud and money laundering.
Champai Soren, who had taken over as CM after the arrest, resigned just five months after taking oath, prompting Hemant Soren on Wednesday to set the ball rolling for him to resume the post.
Champai Soren took oath as the 12th Chief Minister of Jharkhand at the Raj Bhavan on February 2 this year.
Earlier, Hemant Soren, in a video message, accused the BJP of making false allegations against him.
“In the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections, the people of Jharkhand gave us party mandate but the conspirators could not digest how an Adivasi youth could sit on such a high position. Finally, on January 31, they (BJP) levelled false allegations against me and removed me from the post of Chief Minister. With the blessings of the people, I am sitting before you. We will always be the voice of the people. Today, the public opinion of the people of Jharkhand will rise again. By taking the lead, the work will be done again,”
The return of Hemant Soren as CM will strengthen the JMM, which won three seats in the tribal-dominated state of Jharkhand in the Lok Sabha elections.
In 2019, JMM contested the state assembly elections in alliance with Congress and Lalu Prasad’s Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD). They won a comfortable majority of 47 seats in the 81-member House of Representatives.
