Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey 17 trailer previews new sci-fi film that looks like Parasite meets Batman
The new trailer for Mickey17 years looks like the next best sci-fi movie. No seriously, Warner Bros. Discovery already had me with Robert Pattinson and Bong Joon-ho. That was more than enough to get me in before I even saw the trailer, and now that I have, this is shaping up to be one of my most anticipated movies of 2025.
In the new film, Robert Pattinson plays an ordinary man who takes a very extraordinary job, where his employer demands that he die in order to make a living. I don’t know about you, but I find that a bit extreme…
While it’s far too early to confirm any details about the streaming release since the film is being released by WBD, there’s a chance the Oscar-winning filmmaker’s new film will be released on Max after its theatrical release, where it will be released in theaters worldwide from January 31, 2025.
Check out the trailer below – it looks like you’ll need to strap in tight for a wild ride!
What else should we know about Mickey 17?
The full synopsis so far has Robert Pattinson playing a “disposable employee” named Mickey who’s sent on an expedition to colonize the ice world Niflheim. The 17 refers to the number of times he’s regenerated after his job required him to die in the name of research — and you thought your boss was evil.
Whether this will be one of the best Max movies is still a mystery, but it has potential. Besides Pattinson, there are big names in the cast, such as Heir‘s Toni Collette, Beef‘s Steven Yeun, and Poor things‘ Mark Ruffalo, so we have another iconic Bong Joon-ho lineup that looks a lot like his work on Snow drill And Okay.
It is based on the novel Mickey7 by Edward Ashton, with Bong Joon-ho opting to mess with Robert Pattinson’s protagonist even more by turning the number up to 17, which is pretty suspenseful in itself!
