Frustrated holidaymakers have vowed never to return to North Wales after experiencing the “appalling” anti-English attitude of locals.
The group of seven English women, aged between 55 and 70, travelled from Lancashire for a four-day walking holiday to enjoy the natural beauty of Llanberis, but they claim they were met with anti-English taunts on the street.
They also said they were ignored in pubs and restaurants and found it difficult to get help.
Amy Hurst, 56, from Clitheroe, who is a member of Women That Walk, a local group set up to encourage women to get out into nature, says they encounter “an astonishing hatred of the English” everywhere they go.
The mother of one said: ‘The hatred of the English in North Wales is astonishing, we are not coming back.’

Ms Hurst, who runs a flower business, said the group first noticed something was wrong when they arrived at their Airbnb accommodation on August 30.
She said, “When we first got there, we were walking down the street and one of us noticed there was a funeral home there.
‘A passer-by heard us and said: “It’s free for the English!” That was a bit strange.’
The next evening, Mrs Hurst said, the group went into a pub where a customer said: ‘Let’s not get involved in that, they’re bloody English.’
The shocked florist said: ‘We had to tell them to leave us alone.
‘As we were leaving the pub, one of our group members challenged the man and asked him why he felt that way. He turned into a scared little boy!’
“We were a little scared, it felt very threatening.”
Mrs Hurst claims that her group visited a restaurant the next day and everyone was served except her, but she admits that it could have just been bad luck.
‘The atmosphere was terrible everywhere. We were all shocked at how bad it was.
‘I’ve been to Wales a few times but it was really anti-English and probably anti-women too. I won’t go there again.’
She said the walk to Snowdonia was ‘incredible’ despite their experience with the locals, but she was surprised by the way they were treated.

“It’s not exactly Barcelona where they want to take the tourists away because there are too many,” she said.
‘I wouldn’t recommend anyone to go there.
“It’s such a beautiful place, but the people were just weird – they just yelled at us.”

Ms Hurst claims that on the last night the group visited a pub and when the last orders were called out a group member went to get drinks. The pub staff then turned off all the lights.
She added: ‘They clearly wanted us gone too. I’ve never had an experience where I felt like that.’
