A gang of American drug runners recruited by crime bosses were told that they had to hide in the toilets at Manchester airport and wait for luggage with £ 8 million cocaine.

The couriers – five women and two men – were recruited by drug lords in the US and offered between £ 3,000 and £ 4,000 to fly to the UK and pick up the 12 bags.

Inside was more than 300 kg of the ADDicijn class. But the plan fell apart after a staff member on an X -ray machine became suspicious over the rectangular blocks in the cases and border officials entered.

The recruited members – all American subjects – were split into 'teams' and traveled to Manchester on various flights, was told Manchester Crown Court.

Brian Mareal, 32, and Laquesa Greer, 50, flew in from JFK Airport in New York. Charles Mass, 29, and his girlfriend Brianna Hunt, 22, came from Orlando to the UK.

And Yulibeth Gonzalez, 26, Leandra Royer, 26, and Chloe Sandoval, 24, flew from Los Angeles via Dusseldorf.

Three members of the group were arrested on the spot, four others were held in rooms in the Doubletree Hilton Hotel, opposite the airport – and mass and yacht – who had a relationship – were found naked in bed when officers invade.

One case was never found. The rest contained cocaine with a wholesale value of approximately £ 700,000.

The judge said that 'advanced criminals' benefited from other 'naive and silly' members of the gang who thought they could earn 'easily'.

Six people have now been imprisoned for their roles in the 'advanced' operation, which, according to officers of Justice, by Crooks further the chain 'orchestrated'. Another is confronted with a further hearing in prison.

Their arrivals – on the morning May 31 last year – were Timed to coincide with an incoming flight from Cancun in Mexico.

There were 12 suitcases in that area, each containing between 22 and 24 blocks of cocaine. Each case had a different name -tag attached.

The members each received the details of two cases to collect. And everyone was told that they would be paid between £ 3,000 and £ 4,000, plus travel costs.

The 'Key Orchestrator' was a person mentioned in court as 'Nate'. He worked 'in close connection' with an employee called 'Cruz', said public prosecutors. They recruited members; travel packages made; And communicated with them via WhatsApp and Telegram.

Royer helped some of the others to recruit. In a message to a friend, she promised that it was fast money, that nobody had ever arrested and that it was '100 percent safe'. Mass recruited his girlfriend, Hunt.

An earlier journey on 11 May saw a mass of Barbados to Manchester without luggage. He stayed one night in the Holiday Inn. A suitcase with 20 kg of cocaine was not claimed with luggage.

On May 24, Hunt and Mareal traveled from Cancun to Manchester. The court heard that that was a 'failed journey'. A message sent to Maraelle reads: “Cases did not make it.”

In a message to 'Nate' a week before the trip that ended in her arrest, Greer said: “As long as I am going to come back and the money comes back, I am good …”

On 31 May, a staff member saw a bag with 'unusual content' at Terminal 2 luggage – rectangular blocks. More bags were marked and Border Force officers were called.

The group had received instructions to hide in the toilets before he got things. Sandoval took a bag and brought it to somewhere in Bury, before he returned to the Hilton. Gonzalez picked up a business, but was stopped. The last post sent from her phone, to 'Nate', was: “I was caught.”

Massa and Hunt 'broken off their plan' and went their way to the Hilton, where they were accompanied by Royer, who was 'tipped'. Maireal and Greer were held while stood by the carousel.

Later that day, Royer and Sandoval were arrested in the Hilton, while the masses and hunts were naked in bed when they were held.

Sandoval, Hunt, Royer, Greer, Mass and Gonzalez, all not a fixed address, pleaded guilty of often avoiding the prohibition on the import of a class A -controlled medicine before a test would start. Mareal, also from no fixed address, was on trial and was convicted by a jury.

Maireal was sentenced to 13 years; Massa and Royer up to 11 years, eight months; Gonzalez up to nine years; Hunt in seven years, six months; and grearer up to eight years, six months. Once they are released, they are confronted with automatic deportation to the US. Sandoval is convicted on February 14.

Passage director Tom Gilbart said it was a 'considerable' and 'refined' operation. He said that everyone involved “knew they were clearly doing something illegal,” but “wanted to earn money.”

“However, it was nothing compared to the costs of the risk that you took for others,” the judge told them. He said that Mareal, Mass and Royer played an 'important' role because they had a 'great knowledge of the scale of the company'.

The judge said that Hunt – who was 'young, naive and influenced' – Gonzalez, and greer, who suffers from cancer, played a 'lesser role'.

“Each of you was abused by more advanced criminals who hunt for your naive and silly view that you could easily earn money,” he added.
