A stay-at-home mom is facing criticism after she admitted she finds it “unattractive” when a man cannot financially support his wife and family.
The anonymous woman took to popular parenting forum Mumsnet to explain why she felt ‘sorry’ for a local mother who had to work while she was at home.

The mother, whose child goes to school, said she has been a stay-at-home mom since her maternity leave ended and has no plans to return to work.
The family reportedly lives a fairly comfortable life, as her husband runs a business and “earns enough” to support all of them.
In the postThe woman claimed that she could take care of everyone if anything bad happened.
“I have arranged everything so that I am financially stable if he were to leave me or die. And also later in life.”
But a little further down the street, the situation at another family is completely different, the woman continued.
“There is a couple living in my street and she has to work full time. I feel sorry for her that she leaves so early every morning and doesn’t come home until her children are done with school.”
She wrote: ”I totally agree that women should work if they want to or have to, but I can’t help but feel sorry for them.
“I’m not sure if this message will be well received, but AIBU [Am I Being Unreasonable] find it unattractive when a man cannot financially support his wife and family?
“I mean to the point where the woman doesn’t have to work anymore if she doesn’t want to.”
Unfortunately for the stay-at-home mum, many Mumsnet users responded to this, explaining that this is not the reality for many households who are struggling financially and are struggling to make ends meet.
One of them said: ‘The unfortunate economic reality is that most couples cannot afford to live on one income.
“If you are looking for a partner and you exclude everyone who doesn’t make enough to keep you working, chances are you will never find anyone.”
Another wondered whether she would stay with her husband if he went bankrupt.
“So if his company went bankrupt, would you leave him?”
What is a traditional woman?
A trad wife (short for traditional wife) is a woman who chooses to take on an ultra-traditional role in marriage. This means preparing dinner and looking pretty while her husband is at work.
The trend is inspired by the image of the housewife from the 1950s.
Many traditional wives choose to dress in the style of clothing popular at the time (think floral dresses and slouchy cardigans).
Moreover, the values that traditional women consider important resemble strictly Christian values.
Traditional wives believed that they were not forced to live this way and that their purpose was to be a housewife.
The trend, which has gained traction on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram, glorifies a bygone era and pays little attention to the economic challenges facing families and mothers today.

“As a woman I like to work and earn my own money. I don’t need a man to take care of me and I certainly don’t want to be a housewife. [Stay-at-home-mum]” added a fellow Mumsnet reader.
But not everyone was so strict. Another woman said she would “love” to switch roles and be in her position.
”I would love your life. For most families there is no choice and I was a single mother from the time they went to school so I always worked full time.
“I was and still am completely devastated.”
