THERE aren’t many people who know more about the skin than dermatologists, but an appointment isn’t cheap.
Luckily, dermatologists are hiding their expertise in namesake brands. Here are three of my favorites.
Budget
Dr. Sam’s, £9-£62, drsambunting.com/collections/shop:Dr Sam Bunting is one of the UK’s top dermatologists and has suffered from acne herself, so she knows what it’s like to have problem skin.
The brand launched in 2018 with just one product: Dr Sam’s Flawless Cleanser, £19, and I can still remember how impressed I was when I first used it.
Since then, the range has grown to almost 20 products that target all kinds of skin problems. And there is not a single bad buy among them.
If you want no-nonsense, hard-working skincare, this is the brand for you. It’s my most used brand.
Middle class
Doctor Idriss, £35-£79: If you’ve ever asked for skin care advice on social media, you’ve probably seen a video or two from Dr. Shereene Idriss, aka @PillowTalkDerm.
Her aim is to simplify skincare, and the five-product line launched in the UK this week does just that.
They’re all great, but I particularly love the Dr Idriss Major Fade Hyper Serum, £70, which contains a refined blend of niacinamide, kojic acid, glycerin, alpha-arbutin and diglucosylgallic acid. These hydrate the skin and reduce pigmentation for an even tone and texture – which is exactly what I want!
Luxury
Dr. Dennis Gross, £12-£465, spacenk.com/uk/brands/d/dr.-dennis-gross: When my acne was at its worst, the Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peel provided the most relief and helped keep the breakouts somewhat under control.
The brand is celebrating its 25th anniversary next year and its product catalogue includes products for face, body and technology. For example, Dr Dennis Gross DRx SpectraLite FaceWare Pro, £465, is the best-selling skincare device at Space NK.
There’s no denying that it’s pricey, but if you’re looking to invest in your skin, any product is more than worth the money.
Choice of the week
I firmly believe that you don’t have to pay hundreds of euros for a great perfume. The new All Saints collection, celebrating the brand’s 30th anniversary, proves that.
There are three EDPs to choose from: Shoreditch Leather, Ravaged Rose and Sunset Riot Intense, all £40 for 30ml.
Shoreditch Leather is my favorite. It has notes of amber, woods, saffron, vetiver and, you guessed it, leather.
