Elle Macpherson makes huge profit as she sells her luxury Florida mansion for $27 million – amid backlash over her ‘holistic’ cancer claims

Elle Macpherson has made a huge profit on the sale of her stunning Florida mansion, closing the deal for $27 million (US$18.5 million).

The 60-year-old Australian supermodel bought the sprawling, six-bedroom, 8,000-square-foot (770-square-meter) property in 2018 for $11.8 million (US$8.1 million).

She listed the property in 2022 for $29 million, but twice lowered the price to $22 million after initially struggling to find a buyer.

Still, she managed to make a huge profit of over $15 million ($10.4 million) compared to the original purchase price.

The sprawling country house is built in beautiful French Normandy style and was originally constructed in the 1980s. It has since been extensively renovated.

Excellent amenities include large, spacious rooms with high ceilings, a professional kitchen, a library, two walk-in closets, a fitness room and a saltwater pool.

There is also a private jetty, tennis courts and entertainment areas, and Elle has also decorated the walls with opulent artwork by Damien Hirst and Andy Warhol.

The property is located in the upscale town of Coral Gables, Florida, in an upscale gated community called Journey’s End Estates.

She previously said she felt the time was right to move on from the lavish estate as her two sons – Flynn, 26, and Cy, 21 – have moved out.

Proud housewife Macpherson previously told Architectural Digest about her decision to purchase the mansion, saying it wasn’t what she initially wanted.

“This place is so different from what I had in mind, but I believe in being open-minded and open-minded in life. This space and location just felt right,” she told the publication in 2019.

“I wanted the house to feel effortless, eclectic and fun, without pretension. But it had to feel considered. Less is more, but it can also be more challenging. It requires discipline and editing.”

The sale follows Elle’s controversial admission that she refused chemotherapy seven years ago during a secret battle with breast cancer.

The fashion icon revealed in her memoir — Life, Lessons, and Learning to Trust Yourself — that she took a holistic approach to her illness, going against the advice of 32 doctors and her family’s wishes.

Speaking with Women’s weekly magazine Of her diagnosis, she admitted: “It was a shock, it was unexpected, it was confusing, it was daunting in so many ways and it really gave me the opportunity to dig deep within myself to find a solution that worked for me.”

The WelleCo founder was diagnosed with HER2-positive estrogen receptive intraductal carcinoma, a form of breast cancer, and underwent breast-conserving surgery.

Doctors also advised Elle to undergo a mastectomy along with radiation, chemotherapy, hormone therapy and breast reconstruction.

However, Elle, who was married to Jefferey Soffer at the time but divorced four months later, after four years of marriage, decided to go against traditional healing methods.

Instead, she underwent eight months of intensive therapy with doctors in Phoenix, Arizona, using a holistic approach.

Elle, who is now in remission, said it was “a beautiful exercise in being true to myself, trusting myself, the nature of my body and the course of action I had chosen.”

However, her comments sparked strong reactions from several celebrities, including Married At First Sight expert Mel Schilling.

Schilling, 52, who is undergoing chemotherapy in her battle with colon cancer, criticized Elle for publicly stating that she had rejected conventional medicine in favor of an alternative, “holistic” approach.

“I think about Elle and the interviews she’s been doing lately, as a relatively new member of the cancer community and someone who just finished six months of chemo,” Mel said in a video she shared on Instagram.

‘Elle said she was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago and had visited over 32 doctors who recommended a combination of chemotherapy, radiation and hormone therapy.’

“She chose not to do that and took a more holistic, wellness-oriented approach, which included things like prayer, meditation and things like that.”

Mel said she disagreed with Elle promoting alternative medicine for cancer treatment at the expense of the proven medicinal approach, as this could lead to others doing the same.
