Zara leaves shoppers shocked with their new ‘Dobby the House Elf’ collection
ARE you a Harry Potter fan? Then it might be worth your while to visit your local Zara store.
The Spanish fast fashion giant has sent shoppers into a frenzy with its new crinkle collection, sure to please those who don’t fancy ironing their clothes.
From a textured crew neck sweater to a crinkled mini dress, Zara has added a host of new pieces to their ever-expanding collection that are full of crinkles.
While some fashion-conscious shoppers might consider these items a statement piece, this bizarre range has gone viral on TikTok — but for all the wrong reasons.
Recently there was a customer who @alieninmiamiposted a comment on the popular social media after seeing the crumpled goods in a store.
Although the customer was too stunned to say much about it, she did compare the crumpled look to Dobby the house elf from the Harry Potter saga.
Using the hashtags #dobby and #dobbyisfree, the Zara shopper was left in complete shock by what she had discovered and demanded answers.
“What is this?” she wondered in the caption of the now viral video which has been viewed no less than 3 million times in just two days.
As surprised as they were by the unusual appearance, thousands of TikTok users took to the comments en masse to share their thoughts — and best jokes.
One of them laughed and said that this would be his mother’s worst nightmare.
“My mother would go crazy.”
Another wondered, “Why is it medieval?”
“A fitted sheet that I was too lazy to fold,” said a third who felt the garment was better suited for the bedroom.
“Is this a joke?” One stunned viewer refused to believe the unusual discovery.
“Is this an archive from the 1800s or something?” someone else joked.
This isn’t the first time the popular retail chain has wowed shoppers. Fashionistas were recently in stitches when the retailer launched a Shrek-inspired line.
Why is Zara so popular?
Zara was founded in Spain in 1975 and opened its first store in the UK in 1998. It remains one of the most popular stores on the high street, but why?
Instead of producing larger quantities of a particular item, Zara would focus on producing more items.
Some statistics suggest that Zara releases 24 trend-led collections each year, 500 designs per week and almost 20,000 per year. Other estimates put production levels at 450 million garments per year.
Even if a style sells out very quickly, there are new styles ready to take the space. This means more choices and a greater chance of doing well with consumers.
Zara only leaves the designs in the store for three to four weeks. This keeps the consumer visiting the store or website. If they are just a week too late, the clothes of a certain style or trend are sold out and replaced by a new trend.
At the same time, the continuous renewal of the lines and styles in the stores ensures that customers come to the stores more often.
Considered by some to be the perfect choice for Halloween, the new Contrasting T-shirt and vest consists of a simple white T-shirt and a dark khaki knitted cardigan over it.
At £25.99 this is a real winner. You can easily throw it on for days when you’re looking for a comfy outfit, or just want to look like Shrek, as modelled by customer Georgie on TikTok.
The young woman posed in a white T-shirt/khaki vest and did the iconic Shrek roar in the dressing room, while her friend filmed her.
“Shreksy,” Georgie wrote in the caption of the viral clipwhich has garnered her a whopping 1.6 million views.
