Donald Trump’s chances of defeating Kamala Harris in the 2024 general election have improved in recent days after a series of positive polls, according to a leading election analyst.
The vice president is still seen as the favorite in the latest forecast 538, but the Republican candidate is closing the gap with 41 days to go until Election Day.
538, formerly Five-Thirty-Eight, gives Harris a 55-in-100 chance of winning the Electoral College, while Trump has a 45-in-100 chance, up from 39 in September.
The change comes after a Quinnipiac poll showed Trump ahead of Harris by 1 percentage point nationally, and a New York Times/Siena poll gave him a lead in the key Sun Belt states of Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina.
Harris is back on the campaign trail in Pittsburgh today to unveil her plan to expand US manufacturing, 24 hours after Trump delivered a similar policy speech in Savannah.

Donald Trump sees his chances of winning the election increasing after strong polls
Donald Trump’s chances of beating Kamala Harris have increased thanks to a string of strong polls, a leading election expert says.
Harris is still the favorite, with a 55 percent chance of victory, while Trump now stands at 45 percent, up from 39 percent on September 17.
According to G. Elliott Morris of 538, Trump’s lead is due to a Quinnipiac national poll that puts him ahead by one point and a New York Times/Siena poll that shows him leading in the key Sun Belt states of Arizona, North Carolina and Georgia.
“That’s hardly better than tossing a coin!” Morris adds.
“The close margins in the swing states make this year’s presidential race the tightest in decades. The outcome could be closer than any election in nearly 150 years.”
Nancy Pelosi reprimands CNN host Jake Tapper live on air for making wild Trump claims about Kamala Harris
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has blasted a CNN anchor for making recent comments about Vice President Kamala Harris’ cognitive abilities.
The San Francisco Democrat’s heated response came after CNN host Jake Tapper asked her about recent comments made by former President Donald Trump.
“Donald Trump says Kamala Harris has bigger cognitive problems than Joe Biden,” Tapper began as he was about to finish his question.
Then Pelosi abruptly interrupts: “Why would you even discuss that?”
Trump faces ‘real and specific’ assassination threats from Iran as former president says country ‘fearful’ of his return
Donald Trump claims he has received intelligence showing Iran has made “real and specific threats” to kill him.
The Republican presidential candidate’s campaign team provided a chilling update in a statement Tuesday night that portrayed the plans as “an attempt to destabilize the United States and sow chaos.”
The bulletin was sent by Steven Cheung, the Trump campaign’s communications director, and claimed the former commander in chief had been briefed on the alleged plot.
This comes days after investigators discovered that Iranian “malicious cyber actors” sent emails to President Biden campaign staff last summer containing information “derived from stolen, non-public Trump campaign materials.”
It also details two failed assassination attempts on the two-term presidential hopeful, the most recent of which took place just this month.
