The traditional beer industry has been in trouble. Wrestling sale forced another fan-favorite brand to submit bankruptcy.

Alamo Beer Company, a San Antonio established in San Antonio, has applied for a bankruptcy of Chapter 11, in the last sign of struggles for alcohol sellers.

Alamo produces 7,500 barrels of beer from its 14,000 square foot facility every year. Alamo is popular because of its golden beer, lager and blurry IPA.

But the company could produce much more. Eugene Simor, the founder and owner of De Brouwer, said it has the capacity to brew 40,000 barrels of beer every year.

It works below 20 percent capacity.

“The plan is to re-capitalize, restructure and return stronger,” said Simor the Texas-based ABC branch KSAT.

Alamo, which has been brewing since 2003, has grown in recent years by acquisitions.

In 2023 the company bought Shotgun Seltzer in Austin and merged with local brand Viva Beer, according to the San Antonio Express News.

Judicial archives show that the company mentioned assets and liabilities between $ 1 million and $ 10 million. A chapter 11 is usually submitted for companies that restructure or sell the brand.

However, Simor acknowledged that growth in the traditional beer sector has been delayed.

To keep floating, Alamo has already sold parts of his real estate portfolio.

“The real estate value has escalated much faster than the distribution side of the business community,” he said.

The company is also looking for a parking space next to the flagship store.

In San Antonio, alcohol sellers have difficulty finding their foot in the past year. Siled souls, broken sandal and second field all closed their locations in the city in 2023.

But the challenges for the companies based in Texas are part of a greater trend in the alcohol industry.

Companies compete with increasing product costs, while customers cut their discretionary expenditure.

The headwind has forced a handful of other alcohol and beer giants to submit bankruptcy, shutter locations or operations.

Vintage Wine Estates also submitted bankruptcy in mid -2024 for chapter 11.

The company, formerly the 15th largest producer in the US, sold parts of its real estate portfolio to stay in business.

Meier's winery, one of the oldest wineries in the US with 30 different products, also presented bankruptcy before he was finally closed.

Even Molson Coors closed a brewery after being confronted with a financial headwind.

The national producer closed the Leinenkugel brewery in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, after more than 150 years in business.

Jake and Dick Leinenkugel, the sixth generation of the family of the founder of the brewery, said they were trying to buy the hall back at Molson Coors. But they claim that the company has never responded to their requests.

“This brewery has a deep legacy for the Chippewa valley,” said Dick.
